Played the demo, and I decided this was for me. I was correct. It's mostly a very straightforward game where you sometimes have to puzzle out how to progress. Most times, it's fairly simple, but the gameplay loop is fun, and I actually liked the characters in it. Nails the vibe of being like a board game, and it's about as long as it needs to be.

There are sidequests (one for each character) that you can work on as you progress. These are just for some extra story bits for each one. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. I don't see much replay value here, aside from if you missed some sidequest stuff, but the price is right for the quality and length here, in my opinion.

At the very least, check the demo out. If you enjoy that (it takes you through the first chapter), you will probably enjoy the rest of the game.

Big fan of the first game, despite its flaws, and this one is already shaping up to be better. The graphics have, naturally, gotten a bit of an upgrade, but the art style remains intact.

As in the first, your attributes are locked once you choose them at the start. I usually like some flexibility, but I really enjoyed this aspect of the first game, so I'm glad to see it back. Some things have changed, such as charisma giving you an amount of points you can use to govern how many mercenaries you can hire instead of just being a set number of companions you are allowed. Better mercs cost more points. You also no longer need any agility points to be able to sprint, and with an update, crafting no longer requires intelligence. Intelligence just makes it level faster.

The world in its current state is fun to explore, and there are a decent amount of quests to do, some with interesting choices to be made that lead to different outcomes. Many places also have multiple ways of accessing parts of them, whether you're agility-based and can climb vines or double jump, or you're a beefy strength main who prefers to barge in head-first, axe swinging. Another favorite is that, if you're just dealing with a wooden door with no reinforcement, you can just bash your way through it if you lack the skills to pick it and have no key. My master key is my axe.

There are currently two areas, though I've not seen much of the second yet. As I understand it, one can spend 10-15 hours on the current available content if they wish to exhaust it entirely. Even with that, there is some replayability with build variety if you want to go back and try a mage or something. There is no respec for attributes.

Skills are fairly varied. Different kinds of magic, a few forms of melee, et cetera. Summons exist as well, if you want to just build your own little army. I've pretty much just messed with the two-handed melee myself and dabbled a bit in buff magic.

Now, this is very early in its Early Access phase, so keep that in mind. Controller support can be a bit wonky, especially when dealing with menus, but you can just swap to mouse on the fly if need be. I am using a Dualsense myself, though, and the game's controller support is based around Xbox, so some of my other minor hiccups could be related to that. You may occasionally get stuck on geometry or fall in a weird hole, but there's an Unstuck command for that.

I cannot speak to the multiplayer as I've not tried it myself and don't plan to, but it does exist if you want to group up. In any case, know that this developer is dedicated to their work. Patches on the first were frequent when bugs were mentioned, and I'm seeing the same here. For me, it's money well-spent, and I'll be back to it every few months until it hits full release.

I played this for about 20 hours during early access, and I've put in almost another 30 on another run at full release. Honestly some of the most fun I've had in an open world game recently, and a man made this on his own (presumably in a cave, with a box of scraps). Good amount of build variety, lots of stuff to do, some cool puzzles, interesting dungeons, and rewarding exploration.

If you enjoy this genre, you owe it to yourself to jump into Gedonia and have an adventure or two for yourself. The stat choices during character creation lock you into certain builds, but everything is laid out for the player to understand what their choices are going to do for them, and there are several skill trees once you get into the game. Some may not like the initial lock-in, but I found it compelling, and it lends itself to replay value since those stats cannot be altered.

I'm not great at writing reviews, but wanted to drop one here for a good game that isn't likely to get the attention it should. Also, for those of us on a budget, the price is right.

I don't usually do reviews, but this game is phenomenal, and not enough people have played it. The game starts you off in a couple of areas where you can kind of learn how everything works, despite there being no real tutorial yet. You can see what enemies will do on their next turn, right down to damage numbers, and the turn order is displayed for you as well. At first, you might be able to just fight stuff and not worry too much, but the bosses will make you think and pay attention, and later on, even regular enemies will be tough fights.

I'm a man who has trouble getting frustrated with games, but this? No, this didn't make me mad at all, despite its difficulty. It's always fair, and exploring the world is truly a rewarding experience. There are a few classes to choose from at the beginning, and there are plenty to unlock later to add more variety. Huge world, lots of gear, plenty of cool abilities, and lots of optional content.

There are some options that allow you to make the game a bit more accessible, such as adding more home points you can set, as well as allowing you to increase/decrease difficulty at your leisure and increase experience, gold, and learning point gains. Even without using these, there are lots of quality of life things present, such as not being able to miss gear you could steal from bosses or lose things you sold (there's a vendor that keeps all of that stuff for you to buy/buy back later), and there's a full respec option if you decide you made some mistakes in your leveling.

Seriously, if you like turn-based RPGs and exploring worlds, buy this game. Story's not much to speak of, but it's not the focus. Explore, fight, find secrets, and craft a party you can be proud of. This game is a triumph.

This is the spiritual successor to the old Igavania titles we wanted when we backed this on Kickstarter. It blends mechanics from Symphony of the Night, Aria and Dawn of Sorrow, and Order of Ecclesia to make a truly fantastic experience for those of us who love the genre. I'm bad at reviews, but this game is good, and you should play it.

I'm only about 3 hours into this version, but I played the original for a very long time. It may very well be my favorite Final Fantasy game. Anyone who was worried about the quality of this port can put those worries to rest: It's brilliant. The character models and video scenes have received graphical upgrades that actually make them look better instead of messing with the original aesthetic. The music has not been altered, so far as I can tell, and that is definitely for the better. It's a great soundtrack. It seems that everything we loved about the original game is here, and some things have been made even better.

There are some cheat options that can be enabled via the menu or by pressing certain buttons or keys on the pause screen, but these are, of course, completely optional. Want to make the game run super fast? That's a thing you can do. Want all of the abilities to be learned as soon as you equip something? You can do that, too, as well as setting your level and ability stones to max, turning off random encounters, having your battle meters always set to max, always doing 9999 damage, and maxing out your gil. Some of these will be welcome additions for veterans who just want to run through the game again without certain things getting in their way, or even for newcomers who are having problems. It's important to note that three of these options are not reversible: Level/Ability stone max, gil max, and instant ability learning. The game warns you before you activate any of those, so you won't mess things up by accident.

The only problem I've encountered has to do with controller support. If I have my Xbox controller plugged in when the game launches, it's literally impossible to choose a menu option on the title screen due to the selection always jumping about. Using the mouse is also a no-go. Until this is fixed, simply launch the game without the controller connected, then plug it in and use it.

Overall, this is a 10/10 from me. It's a great port of a fantastic game.

It's been awhile since a game really made me think. I'm not talking about figuring out puzzles, some sort of mystery, or even anticipating what the plot will bring up. I'm talking about really pondering your existence and what it means to be human. This is some truly compelling work from the writers, and the voice acting brings it all to life fantastically.

The atmosphere is crafted masterfully as well. I played most of this while wearing a headset, and I sometimes forgot I was actually sitting in my chair at the computer. The sound design is spot-on. Wandering around a deserted deep sea facility and listening to the groans, clanks, and drips of the structure really kept me immersed. Those, as well as other sounds, also terrified me when the time was right.

Gameplay-wise, you'll spend your time exploring and finding out more about what went horribly wrong down here. There are some puzzles here and there, sometimes in the form of finding items you will need to progress, and other times in the form of re-routing power or moving a communications dish from a control console. You will also, of course, spend some time hiding from monsters, which was the part of the game I enjoyed the least. The whole "defenseless protagonist" trope wears on me a bit, but it was worth tolerating the mechanic to experience the game as a whole.

All told, this is a fantastic sci-fi/horror game. I found myself experiencing some wonder and melancholy along with the fear. You'll find horror here, but the source isn't always the monster around the corner.

A challenging and fun little metroidvania title, this game is well worth the price tag on it. It's full of references to other such games, and there are a lot of secrets to find. Oh, you'll die quite a bit, but you'll damn well have fun while you're doing it. The soundtrack is also quite good.

Stanley sat at his computer and booted up a game which had appeared on his desktop. It was, he discovered, set in his own office building, and he was in a constant state of deja vu. It was as if his memories were being plucked from his head and placed on the screen as he moved about. Was this some sort of sick joke? Who would do such a thing, and how? What did it all mean? More importantly...how did this man with the soothing voice fit into it? Was this simply the voice of his own conscience? Stanley didn't know, but what he did know was that the plant in the office window suddenly seemed very important.

I watched a couple of gameplay videos and decided I needed this. I was right. It's classic sidescrolling shooter gameplay with characters representing mostly 80s and 90s action heroes, and it is absolutely glorious. Each character has their own different weapon (with a couple being similar to each other) and special attack, and you get a random one from the bros you have unlocked every time you respawn or rescue somebody. It keeps the action fresh.

I don't really need to get long-winded about this. It is precisely what it presents itself to be, and that's great. If you're on the fence, watch some gameplay videos. It really delivers, and we'll be seeing more bros and missions as the game nears full release. Now, get out there and liberate the world with EXPLOSIONS!!
