This is a great game with lots of depth and absolutely nothing to get in the way of its replayability. Once you start a run it's just rolling dice and making choices until you win or lose. I have at least as many if not more hours on the mobile version as well, which is exactly the same and plays great on my old chromebook. I think this is certainly some of the best dice-based gameplay I have ever played for sure.

The games combat revolves around 6-sided dice with varying keywords and number of pips on each side. Every hero/monster has their own die with their own abilities. Monsters roll once and you can roll all your hero's dice up to three times per turn by default, fishing for things you want to do that turn.

And speaking of keywords, I love that this game keeps all of them simple and easy to digest. A lot of games the mechanics can get extremely complex and hard to wrap your head around initially. That's not the case here as most things are a single sentence and easy to grasp.

The heroes all belong to different categories represented by a color (red, green, grey, blue, etc.). As you progress through your run, you will have the option of upgrading your heroes to a higher tier hero in that category. In general, the higher tiered heroes have more pips on their sides and less blank spaces.

Each hero can hold two items by default as well. And between tiering up your heroes you will also choose various items to add to them. These items can really tweak the mechanics you are working with and is really were the game shines the best in my opinion. There are a TON of items and it is really fun working with them to bring your build together each run.

Combat in this game is a great little puzzle every round as well. You are constantly looking for just the right pips you need to secure a kill or prevent a hero from dying. And I love the fact that you are able to undo your choices if you make a mistake or figure out a more optimum play after making a few moves. In this way, the game encourages you to just play and figure things out without punishing you for learning or making moderate mistakes. That being said, everything is based on rolling dice and sometimes RNG can be punishing, but that is to be expected and is part of the charm.

The standard run consists of 20 combats with levelups/items between each combat and sometimes an occasional other choice as well. There are, of course, multiple difficulty levels for the stardard runs. But there are also a ton of different "modes" that change up the rules and such as well, adding to the replayability even further. I have mostly just stuck to the standard runs for now, but I plan on exploring these more down the line.

Anyways, if any of that sounds fun, you should buy this game. And frankly, pick it up on mobile as well as it is far better than 99% of the trash games on the app stores.

Super Auto Pets is cute and fun and all, but this is more like Super Battle Bots and can be very addicting. Like SAP, this is an auto battler. But, instead of a roster of cute pets, you are only fielding one sea creature versus another each round. As you win fights and descend deeper into the depths, you are spending your evolution points to build out your creature's overall behavior and capabilities. You are allowed to see what your upcoming opponent's capabilities are before each fight, so you are always trying to prepare and counter as best you can to keep winning.

As you play, you will unlock more creature types and other planets to dive on. The later planets let you take multiple creatures along on the dive, although you are still only fielding one creature versus another each round. The later planets also give you access to more actions and modules as well, so the game kind of eases you into the mechanics and has everyone on a level playing field.

Definitely check out this demo if you like Super Auto Pets or other games that let you build out a sort of AI and pit it versus other AIs. I find myself having almost as much fun just coming up with silly names for my creatures so other people might chuckle when they wind up facing them. :P

It's a twin-stick shooter survivor but with the combat resembling something like Breakout/Arkanoid. There is a similar mechanic to Vampire Survivors here where you level up and choose specials balls or equipment as the run progresses. You then occasionally get powerup drops that let you fuse/evolve balls together to become more powerful. It's all been done before, but the brick breaking combat helps it feel pretty fresh and everything feels very polished.

There is meta progression going on in the form of the characters leveling and town being upgraded. The town management even includes a sort of brick breaking style mini game to harvest resources between runs, which I thought was a nice touch.

It's very fun, and I'm looking forward to this one. Give the demo a shot.

You can feel that Telltale influence here. And yet the cell-shaded animation is much cleaner and nice than I remember those games being. The dialog and story telling seems really well done, as you would expect. There is constant banter happening the whole time as well which really helps to bring life to the characters. The hero management and dispatching aspect of the game is also fun. Trying to choose the right hero(es) for the job and to use techniques that utilize their strengths seems like it will be interesting between letting the story bits unfold.

Gonna be hard to pass this one up as a fan of beat-em-ups and roguelites. It reminds me of a modern version of the old D&D: Shadows Over Mystara arcade game, and that's a good thing. I really love the comic book art style and how clean everything looks.

I came back to it with a partner and just enjoyed it even more. This is clearly a love letter to the genre and has the potential to be my favorite beat-em-up of all time. The mounts and some of the discoverable moves are clearly based on classics like Golden Axe and Final Fight and will leave you smiling when you get hold of them.

I like that you have a bit of choice in your route that affects what you are facing, but I would love to see a more of that frankly, with more difficult and rewarding path options available ala Dead Cells. More run-defining rituals/items would also really send this over the top in terms of fun and replayability.

One of the few games I know of where a problem such as, "I need a new brain" is easily solvable.

Anyone who likes cRPG’s or wants to dip their toes into the world of D&D should play this at some point. It reminds me of the glory days of Bioware games like Dragon Age Origins.

It looks great, it sounds great, the voice acting (with very few exceptions) is great. Its flavor of D&D 5e combat is very approachable with lots of races, classes, spells and abilities to explore. It plays equally well in single player or as a co-op experience. Overall I enjoy it even more than Divinity: Original Sin II, which was also great.

Credit to Larian Studios for reminding gamers that you can make rich, passionate products that aren’t laden with microtransactions and still be successful in today’s market as well. I am also looking forward to the prospect of future Workshop support and some random dungeon crawls with friends in the future.

A great game that was well worth it during its Early Access period and has only improved in the time leading up to its release. Fans of platforming rogue-lites should pick this one up, for sure.

The real heart of the game revolves around the "falling sand game" style physics interactions and the game's wand system. Each pixel is simulated with its own set of properties and interacts differently with other effects like fire/water/explosions/etc. Sand particles fall and pile up like an hourglass, ice blocks will shatter into smaller fragments and can be melted into water/steam, wood can be set on fire, etc. All the physics interactions feel natural and fluid because you are essentially a witch trying to navigate through a giant sand game level while lots of enemies try to kill you.

And how are you going to deal with said enemies that are trying to kill you? Well, that brings us to the game's wand system. As you make your way through the game, you'll find wands with both randomly generated stats and a set of random spells/modifiers pre-loaded into the wand's spell slots. If you manage to make your way to the end of the current zone, into the holy mountain, you can then tinker with your wands and move things around. There are a ton of different spells and modifiers that change the behavior or spells and half the fun of the game is just tinkering with them to discover how things work and make crazy overpowered implements of death. You'll likely then accidentally kill yourself with said implement, but that's the other half of the fun.

Each time you complete a zone you will also be able to choose a perk from a random set provided in the holy mountain. This allows you to further specialize your play through independently of the game's wand system. Certain perks can grant immunity to different damage types, improving your chances of killing enemies without killing yourself. Other perks have a variety of interesting effects that, when combined with the randomized wands, make each run different and interesting as you try to make the best out of what you find each time.

It is definitely one of those games that, if it gets its hooks in you, you'll find yourself dying repeatedly but restarting again and again in search of that perfect wand that finally allows you to destroy everything with impunity. And when you find it, let me know where it is will ya? :P

Best game I suck at 2020.

If you are not irrationally afraid of having to draw stuff, this is fun game to play locally with friends using their phones or tablets to play. The key factor here is that this game, and the Jackbox games in general, are very lightweight and super casual. These games are quite easy to pick up and play with a diverse group of people that includes non-gamers.

If you don't have a group of friends in your living room to play with, it can be streamed and played as well. I've found using Discord's built in screen sharing to be the easiest and lowest latency way to accomplish this without having to do a public stream.

As a long-time fan of multiplayer drawing games like Pictionary, Sketchit, Draw Something, etc, I have to recommend this game to other fans of the genre looking to scratch that creative itch.
