If you've ever been interested in traditional roguelikes or Mystery Dungeon games, this is a great beginner one. The mechanics are simple and effective, you're not expected to know very much about funky interactions, and you're given a lot of leeway in terms of equipment storage and upgrading yourself through runs.

A Mystery Dungeon game is a turn-based grid RPG, where you collect items and get through the dungeon, If you die, you lose everything you had with you. If you make it to a safe zone, you can deposit items for safety. Think of it like an extraction shooter, but as an RPG.

The Resident Evil aesthetic is just that, an aesthetic. There's zombies and plants and a laboratory under a mansion, and you get guns with ammo, but otherwise it's a melee-centric RPG. I went into this expecting more Resident Evil, I didn't really get it, but I think what I got was worthwhile, especially for the price point.

I beat the game at about 5 hours, and by "beat," I mean it said I had 50% completion. I still had another three post-game dungeons, hidden items and levels to explore, experimentation with enemies and item combinations to work with, spells to collect, and also accidentally died to a beginner trap in the endgame and had to collect brand new equipment to replace my old stuff. At 35 hours, I'm still looking for that elusive 101% and presumable an actual final ending to the game.

If any of this interests you, you owe it to yourself to play this. Try the demo. It's based on a beta build, so the mechanics are slightly different, but the overall experience is pretty much identical to the final game.
