Surviving with other players is both fun and rewarding with all the shenanigans that you and your team will get into.
Don't Starve Together has loot drops that you can earn or buy. All of them are just skins for exisitng items and characters and does not offer any advantage in-game wether you buy them or not.
If you are new to the game, I suggest having a wikia open to help you with the crafting of items in the beginning of the game. The community is very helpful if you ever need help with what you need to do to survive and progess.
