TL;DR: Daybreak II feels like, as Dingo described it, a side story content that is only considered in the mainline series because the Geneses are involved, especially the Eighth .

Character & Story:
The main concept of this game, Time Leap , is an interesting idea to visit but gets dull and loses importance when used multiple times like in Act III. Because of that, it does not feel like the stakes are high like in Chapter 5 of Daybreak I. I did, however, appreciate Maxim's route in Act III and his growth as a character.

In terms of the main cast, apart from Quatre , just like my review of the first game, characters have very little character development and backstory reveal which elevates the point that the whole of Daybreak II is a side story even more. Elaine getting a little bit more spotlight in this game is a plus and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that prologue got me. Nice to see the D∴G Cult victims get closure and finally put it behind them.

Gardenmaster feels like a wasted potential as the main antagonist of this game. His design is really cool. They could have delved into his backstory more in each Act just like how history was revealed in the Cold Steel Saga. He feels... random.

Combat:
Quick Arts is a small addition in Field Battle but there was really no reason to use them other than for tactical bonus and the achievement.
Cross Charge is another addition to the Field Battle and is a really nice mechanic that helps speed up stunning the enemy.
EX Chain is a new mechanic in Command Battle that allows more AOE damage and rewards the player for using S-Boost.
They removed the ability to chain S-Crafts of the same character consecutively, so that's something to watch out for, though the game feels far easier than the first game that it is fine.
I did enjoy a mechanic in the Final Boss fight against Grendel Zolga Sin where it destroyed the shard field and transitioned from Command to Field battle and kinda wished it was used more in boss fights.
I was able to complete a personal challenge and not use Agnes for my playthrough of the game, even on Nightmare.

Music:
Trails BGMs never fails to impress, 'Skip to the Edith', 'Hard Boiled Shortcake', 'Painful Enough to Cut Yourself', 'Spiral of Time', 'News of Thaw', 'Believing Heart', 'Buster the Ghost of Garden', 'Chaotic Loop' & more. However, last dungeon BGM, 'Dignity of Glowing Red', did not hit as hard as 'Spiral of Erebos' or 'Reverse Babel'. 'Resonance of Ray' from Daybreak I vibed more as well.

Achievements & Missables:
Daybreak II is easier to 100% than the first game. You are given a lot of chances to catch all movies, Cetus Phantasma exists for all battle related achievements and you do not have to replay a chapter more than once (apart from NG+).

I just see Daybreak II as a side story content that helps elevate the experience and enjoyment of the next games. I would highly recommend to get this game on sale.

Great game from start to end.

Looks & Feel:
Calvard is really stunnning. When you first 'Step in the Edith', the game greets you with a modern looking city with environmental sounds like announcements, NPC talking, radios playing remixed/arranged version of notable songs from previous games like 'Sophisticated Fight' from Sky, 'Inevitable Struggle' from Zero, etc, really brings life to the city. Other cities are also beautiful but I think Edith is the most appealing to me followed by Oracion for its timeless architecture.

Character & Story:
The new cast is refreshing and feels really lively and bonded with really good banter and interactions. I love the fact that they are morally gray or as Van described the colour as "The dark blue just before the dawn", giving us a unique view on choices, actions and circumstances. The 3D models now has more motion and expression than previous iterations, making cutscenes and combat fluid and beautiful. The only minor complaint I have is that the supporting ASO characters have very little character development and backstory but I think the writers are saving them for future games so I will be looking forward to that.

Just like other Trails game, there are so many questions brought up than answered, leaving much to the imagination and theorycrafting which in a way, will make the reveal satisfying if done right. The story leading to the ending for the game is really great as it dropped a massive bomb regarding Van at the end and really explained why he was able to sense the higher elements in the prologue, became a Spriggan to help people, acts as the protective 'big brother' to the other characters and dislikes being in anyone's debt.

My personal favourite characters from ASO are Van, Aaron and Judith, they really bring life to the party and their dialogues are consistently enjoyable. Side character favs goes to Renne and Ellroy. Bonus points to the writers if they explore more on them.

Combat:
The new hybrid combat system is incredibly engaging. Action based jumping into a new type of turn based combat feels really exciting. The action based is used to gain advantages in the turn based portion where we are able to move the characters while planning moves. The constant holo core voice speaking commands and suggestions on top of the characters interacting with one another during battle makes combat feel more exciting and immersive. I bought the Holo Core voice pack DLC and enjoyed using them which brought the experience up another level for me. Exploring dungeons and overworld areas feels thrilling with this system. Far from repetitive, the combat and exploration gave me a genuine 'high', especially in Chapter 5 with its incredible dungeon BGM.

Music:
The BGMs are really nice as well. Some favourites: 'Step in the Edith', 'Arkride Solutions Office', 'Open the Shard', 'Cloudy Cloudy', 'Feelings are Transmitted'. One that I really enjoy and have it playing a lot in real life is 'Marginal Crisis', the BGM of the dungeon in Chapter 5. It's really energetic, epic and gives the 'high' I was referring to when exploring the dungeon. 'Resonance of Ray', the final dungeon BGM is nice to listen to but does not quite match 'Reverse Babel' in Reverie, 'To the Future' in Cold Steel IV and 'Spiral of Erebos' in Cold Steel III as a Last Dungeon BGM.

Achievements & Missables:
100%-ing this game is not hard at all. 'Hidden' side quests and 'Missables' are marked on the mini map and quick travel map with a green exclamation mark. Optional events and scenes are marked with a blue exclamation mark on the minimap. Due to those, they removed the 'finding secrets' aspect of previous games. With 'Treasure Hunter' shard skill activated, it is impossible to miss chests and now that the game does not require you to Battle Scope the enemies to log them but just encounter and defeat them, the enemy logging achievement is almost impossible to miss and is done automatically. 'Chain Smoker' and 'W-W-Wombo Combo' achievements can easily be obtained as early as Chapter 1 as well (That's when I got them).

The only 'missables' I'd argue are the evening movie as you are not able to tell who the character you are going to meet for the movie you chose for the Bonding, and the max LGC (an alignment system based on the choices you make during side quests and cutscenes), but all this can be achieved easily if you are planning to do a New Game+ run (which you have to do if you are planning to 100% the game for the 3 Onyx Weapon achievement).

The only annoying achievements are the Chapter 5 trophies, you have to complete Chapter 5 4 TIMES teaming up with the 4 different factions. Chapter 5 felt like the longest chapter as well.

Daybreak is a fantastic start to the Calvard arc: beautifully designed, full of mysteries, and with a cast that shines. Highly recommended for Trails veterans and newcomers alike, though I'll always recommend playing the series in order.

Great conclusion to the Cold Steel and Crossbell arcs. The Reverie Corridor offers additional stories about the characters’ lives before the events of Reverie, with three of these stories providing context and spoilers for the next installment. By the end of the game, Rufus has become one of my favorite characters in the series. On to the Calvard arcs!

I wasn’t expecting much from this game before playing it, but the lore and Kevin's story proved me wrong. Unlike the usual Trails series games, this installment leans heavily into being a dungeon crawler. However, it stands out with its focus on lore, world-building, and character backstories, which are fantastic and provide valuable context for future installments. Kevin now contends with Estelle for the top spot as my favorite main character in the series.

Great storytelling all the way. It starts off slow, showing the daily lives of the SSS after Zero, and gradually ramps up as the stakes get higher towards the end. More lore and character backgrounds are explained, with answers to the questions presented in Zero addressed. There are great references to the events of Cold Steel I & II. I got goosebumps in many scenes of the game. Wazy has now become one of my favorite characters in the series.

Really great from start to end. I liked the slow start leading to an intense ending that presented questions to be answered in the next games. The SSS grew on me, and I loved how, despite their limited experience, they persevered through adversities and showed their resolve till the end. Randy is funny and a nice bro.

A really great game and I enjoyed it a lot (Story, Characters & Gameplay). It's a step up from the previous games and continues the story from where it left off in II with characters from the other games (Sky, Zero & Azure) start to come together.

What blew me away most first when launching the game was that I was greeted with a really great music (Start Line) playing in the main menu. I will always let the main menu music loop itself once before starting to play the game every time i launched it. Overall, the whole soundtracks for the game is amazing starting from "Pancakes on the Way Home" all the way to "Spiral of Erebos". I even bought the digital album from Apple Music.

You will be controlling the same main character from the previous two games but now have a different party to work with (which will be your main party). Old characters from the previous games will appear as party members from time to time but it is best to focus on the current main one. Characters are great, some are kind of a repeat personality from the previous games but overall still unique (Especially Ash & Musse).

The story continues from the previous games with more of the lore and mystery explained. Due to that, different factions (Class VII, Bracers, SSS, etc.) start to come together to deal with the threat which felt really epic, knowing you've got all these talented people working with you at different parts of the world in their own way. This will also lead to one amazing adventure and climax which will be the next game, Trails of Cold Steel IV.

Really looking forward to Trails of Cold Steel IV next year for Steam, and really hoping that the Crossbell Arc gets localised so I can buy to play it, understand the story and also support the developers.

All in all, a great game that will explain more of the lore and mystery that has been around.

Great end to the first part of the Trails series. Really enjoyed the story and game. There's so many scenes that gave me goosebumps even though it's a Chibi Sprite game. Hopefully they localise the Crossbell games. Olivier is still and will always be the best character.

Many people say the final dungeon will take a long time but I was able to clear it in a short time. When playing the New Game+ for the main game, my party was leveled up so much that I was able to just pop a 'Holy Bottle' for the final dungeon.

If you are really interested in this DLC and want to experience it yourself, just get it on discount.
