TLDR; It's nostalgia-bait through and through. It does not offer anything interesting which enhances the plot of the game it desperately clings onto, and mostly uses it as a springboard to lure you in so they can try to get every cent out of you they can. The combat is very shallow, and does not do anything interesting or new in the persona series other than add gacha mechanics & characters.

It's crazy how games being "Free to play" is a red flag now. They are rarely about making an enjoyable experience which will result in you wanting to spend money. It's about making a product that utilizes as many tricks as possible in order to convince you that you're enjoying the game and that you'll enjoy it more if you just spend every now and again. Despite this, I was willing to give this a shot because I heard the story was pretty decent and that Atlus was involved in making it.

I managed to finish the first palace and BOY HOWDY if we think this is good then we need to pick up a book or something, this was dreadful. If Atlus truly was involved in the writing of this game then I have lost respect for them. Side Characters weren't necessarily written poorly, but there's just no personality in the MC so I feel as though every character just stumbles up and talks at you. The First Palace's Antagonist " The Subway Slammer" is written like his primary motivations came from a Madlibs book. There is just no substance here that's worth taking in. The one positive thing I can say about the story is that they somehow made a character more insufferable than Morgana, and that at least deserves praise.

I'm not going to comment as heavily on the combat as that wasn't really why i was here, but i got exactly what i expected. Artificial difficulty placed in so you feel more inclined to swipe OR prevent you from moving forward until you collect enough login bonuses a couple weeks from now in order to move on. There was nothing here that engaged or challenged me. I understand a lot of these games may have harder encounters in the end game through weekly / biweekly trials, but you will not find it during the plot of the story.

I understand that the game is free to try and you don't really lose anything in doing so. However, as the Persona series has taught us in the previous installments, your time is fleeting. 10hrs of gameplay is 10hrs of your precious life that could be used in different and better ways. If you want to experience the story you can always do so through the eyes of a streamer or something, but there is nothing for you here other than a cookie clicker which demands the occasional monetary sacrifice. Use your time wisely and go somewhere else.

I will be reinstalling for Haru though.

*Ignore the playtime, I left this on while working so that i could remote in and press buttons occasionally. I beat the first palace which probably takes 12hrs?*

Whether you're playing in a group / solo, or playing a casual / pain inducing difficulty, the game is a great time. Highly recommend this one.

A Survival game with actually good combat and decent enemy variety.
That's it, that's my review.

The Mystery as a whole is extremely compelling. A supernatural murder where events could not possibly happen if they were confined to our own world had me interested from the start. Usually something of this caliber would be difficult to pull off since you can pull anything out of thin air and make it feel cheap. They avoided this by setting up all the players prior and ensured that you understood the capabilities of every being involved. I was engrossed for the first couple of hours. However...

As a Mystery GAME, it's nothing more than moving through a large Hub getting from one NPC to the next and occasionally finding points of interest on the way. You are hardly piecing clues together, as the player character is doing this for you. Evidence does not need to be presented, just collected and the game will inform you of where you need to go next. Normally this would be okay if they left things up for interpretation and let things escalate during the Trial sequence where you put everything together and reveal a big conspiracy. "But that's exactly what happens!" you may say if you have played the game before, but all i did was click on the text prompts and let the character i was controlling do all the deducing for me. You merely have to accuse the right person and the game will take care of the rest for you. You cannot be wrong at any point other than the initial accusations during the trial, which are usually spelled out for you by the game if you found any amount of clues while investigating.

Navigating around the map is tedious, it's exciting when you find clues initially but given the size of the map it becomes cumbersome rather quickly. Whilst fast travel exists, it's difficult to tell where you're actually going unless you really study the map and even so it still requires you to go through several time consuming menus. Platforming around the hub is awful even with all of the upgrades you can get as there's no way to alter your trajectory once you leave the ground. There are collectables scattered throughout the hub, but it is more tedious to collect these objects than it is enjoyable for the previously stated reasons. I appreciate how open the map is and how you can tackle the game in any order you wish, but I ultimately did not like its execution and would have preferred something more condensed.

It actually pains me to not recommend this. It's oozing with style and I thoroughly enjoyed the setting and the characters. Although I enjoyed my time with it initially, that Paradise was killed rather quickly and that feeling was replaced with a general apathy (haha i put the title of the game in my review). If you enjoy walking simulators and want just a story I could see myself recommending this, but as a game about "Gathering Evidence and Interrogating suspects" I would give it a pass.

TL;DR Highly Recommend. Even Higher Recommendation if you're a fan of the early Paper Mario Installments.
This review started as a few lines of text, however the more I thought about my experience with Bug Fables the more I had to write.

Bug Fables wears it's inspiration on it's sleeve and yet it triumphs over it handily without needing the player to be nostalgic for the game who's look they're trying to mirror. However, if you've been itching for that true "third installment to the Paper Mario series", Bug Fables scratches that itch and then some. The inclusion of a toggle-able hard mode was greatly appreciated as well, as it allows veterans to games such as these to feel challenged without sacrificing the experience of a newcomer or those who want to take it easy.

They crafted an extremely captivating world, and filled it with fun characters I couldn't help but get invested in. The Papercraft appearance they were going for was executed brilliantly for NPC's and enemies alike, and although i wished for more Origami-inspired characters, I was happy with what there was. Little touches throughout the environments add so much flavor to every place you go, and learning more and more about the lore of the world you live in was fascinating.

I may be a bit biased towards loving the combat since i'm a sucker for turn based RPGs with Action commands mixed into the fray. These actions never take more than 2 seconds to finish for default attacks, and 4 seconds for skills. At times the "mini games" used for Action Command attacks in RPGs such as this one can be a bit mundane after awhile, however I personally never felt that with Bug Fables, and I've done everything you could possibly do Pre-Credits (and plan to do Post-Credits as well). Another thing that i appreciate about combat is how numbers are kept low and manageable.

Defending against enemy attacks works similarly in that pressing a button at the right time will lower damage taken. At times this can be very easy to do as the block is very forgiving when used too early. However there's also another tier of blocking (cleverly called super-blocking) which rewards you for hitting block as closely to the attack connecting as possible. What this means is you risk missing that super block and taking full damage in an attempt to reduce damage ever further than you could with a regular block. That risk and reward is cleverly implemented and keeps the defense interesting until the end. However, successfully blocking causes text to appear that may obfuscate your vision and make it hard to time the next block if the attacks happen in quick succession. Though it happened rarely, when it did it was infuriating.

Instead of Weapons and Armor you equip "badges" which offer passive effects. The more minor effects are just beneficial, however the massive changes also offer some downsides as well. Because of how easy it is to toggle these on and off, experimenting is never punished and allows players to be creative with what they equip and where without feeling bad about it.

Outside of the combat, there are plenty of areas to explore and many secrets to find. Bug Fables sprinkles in traversal tools for you as you progress through the story, which creates environmental puzzles that are fairly interesting, though they can devolve into "just use what you most recently acquired" which can be problematic. Returning to old areas with your newly acquired abilities will unveil plenty of secrets and things that were unobtainable previously.

I would say if you wanted to speed through the chapters in the game, it would take roughly 20 hours to complete. However, the amount of interesting side content in the game is staggering and could easily take your total playtime to 50ish hours. These side things are; hidden bosses, interesting side quests, a cute card game, and little collectibles. A huge positive of the side stuff is that you rarely need to look something up outside of the game, as they offer many clues about where to look in game for recipes, and hidden item locations.

Highly Recommended for RPG fans new and old. If you're a fan of the Paper Mario series and your favorite game in that series is the First or TTYD, I would say you NEED to play this. Wow why did you read all this lmao nerd

A masterpiece of a 2D platformer, if you like that genre then you NEED to play this. I held off on it for 3 years and I regret that decision, easily one of my favorite games of the decade.

Celeste can be extremely difficult at times. However, there are accessibility options to make it easier for people who aren't willing to bash their faces against a spiked wall for hours on end, or for those have disabilities. Though I'd highly recommend you keep trying until you get it using the base settings, as perseverance is essentially the whole point.

This is probably one of the best simulation games I've ever played. What are you simulating exactly?
A Geoscapes moderator who just started an acid trip.

It's got such a uniquely wonderful premise for a puzzle game and is full of laughs. If you like that sort of thing, i definitely wouldn't pass on this. The less you know about the game the better, though checking the videos on the store page is fairly harmless.

I have only ever played one other VN (Steins Gate) which I loved, but I wouldn't necessarily say this is a genre I enjoy.
However, I got enough of a push to play this and I'm extremely thankful that I did.

Don't look at any other reviews for this.
Don't look at any information on it, including tags and the like.

Just set aside 3ish hours or so and play through it. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much you enjoy it.
