Endless Sky is a free community developed and supported single-player, top down, 2D Space Sim in the vein of Elite Dangerous or Eve Online.

It's meant to be a spiritual successor to the Escape Velocity series of games for the Macintosh system. But that being said, anyone who enjoys a good space trading/fighting/fleet building/CYOA story game will enjoy it.

The current iteration of the game has several stories, big and small, to experience. With an 'babies introduction to the universe' in the form of a civil war in Human Space and only building out from there.

The dev team is extremely active on the game's discord, and it also has a subreddit where people are willing to help out and discuss the game as well.

All in all, a very enjoyable game. I highly recommend it.

2025 Edit - Game is still going strong. Devs have added so much to the game, and the modding community has added even more. I can't reccomend this enough.

This is a quick and fun time waster. But word to the wise, if you are looking to 100% this, be prepared for a migrane.

Almost all of the achievements are entirely based on getting extremely lucky RNG.

The conceit of the game is that you play 'chess' as a shotgun wielding king, each round ending when you kill the other side's leader. Each round you complete increases the number of pieces the other side gets _and_ gives you a choice between two sets of cards. One card is a black card, that is meant to power you up, one card is a white card, that does the same for their side. There are ten rounds in the regular mod, thus ten white and ten black cards you can get per game.

90% of the achievements are based on winning with a specific set of three cards. Some of these cards have their own requirements (i.e. they won't even show up unless you've picked another card, or they flat out can't show up if you pick a certain card).

Which means that you can have long streaks of time without even a chance to get an achievement because the cards you need never show up. And then often you need to actually _WIN_ after you get those cards which can be a huge pain if you are selecting options based on which cards the achievements are attached to and are forced to accept white cards that put you at an extreme disadvantage.

I believe one of the achievements someone calculated as you having a better chance at winning a lotto than getting the cards for.

That being said, it's still a fun game.

As a casual World of Warships player I decided to take a chance and pop over to WoT to see if it was any good.

I think I can safely say that WoT is more of the same. If you like WoW, give it a try. Though it does seem to be a bit heavier on the whole microtransaction setup....

Installed this to play co-op with a friend. We attempted to play several times, each time being disconnected and desynced from each other well into the match. Went online to find numerous complaints about the issue in the developers forums as well in Steam Discussions dating from just a month prior to playing the game to the month the game was released. Saw that almost universally, when the dev responded they would indicate they were aware of the issue and were working on a fix that would be released 'soon'. Then noticed that the same pattern existed for almost ALL of Stardock's multiplayer games. Gave up trying to play co-op.

Decided to give the single player campaign a run to try to salvage the experience. Discovered the campaign is one of those 'heavily scripted/on rails' type deals where you are expected to play exactly as the game tells you to or you'll be at a severe disadvantage. In other words, don't waste time trying to build a base unless you are explicitly told to build a base, don't try to build economy unless that is what you were told to do. Otherwise whatever time/resources you spent on extraneous activities will end up meaning that when the scripted event the mission triggers hits you, despite the fact that your actions should have theoretically put you in a far better spot to handle them, you'll be overwhelmed.

Saw that the developer had actually funded the publishing of a dead tree book that was suppose to be the first of a prequel trilogy to the game's storyline. Then noticed that someone had asked when the next two books would be coming out, only for the dev to respond that the author of the first book had become too expensive to hire to finish the series, so they were looking into other alternatives. Which seems to describe the entire setup.

Ashes of the Singularity is full of promising ideas that were either poorly or half implemented. I can't recommend this to anyone but a hardcore collector of Sci-Fi based RTS games and then only to pad out your collection, god help you if you actually wanted to play it.

Got this game a while back in a Humble Bundle, didn't start playing till recently when my brother got me into it. Fun bit of time, very much of the old L4D vein of teamplay. Not too sure I like the 'forced' public play of some of the modes of play but still fine for what I paid for it.

Still in Early Access and has a few (but not many) rough edges to it. But quite fun and enjoyable never the less. Looking forward to seeing where the game ends up landing on full release.

If you remember playing Subnautica while it was still being developed, this is a similar setup. There are places in the world and mechanisms that are essentially set and the rest are in varying degrees of flux as new stuff is implemented.

Empyrion often gets compared to Space Engineers in game play. This is fair to an extent, both games have a core concept of voxel based building of vehicles and bases.

However these are also two extremely different games beyond that similarity. Where Space Engineers spends a lot of it's time and effort in the physics and building engine, Empyrion spent time on creating an actual game to play with an actual purpose and story (and yes I know that there are 'scenarios' available for SE, but those are at best 'mini' stories to explore, not full on settings).

Admittedly the game is still rough around the edges, and while it has moved leagues in relation to where it started; it still has a long way to go before it could be considered a 'polished' experience. Nevertheless it is still an enjoyable and fun time that I can recommend to anyone looking for another game similar to Space Engineers.

I have high hopes for where the game will eventually end up.

PS Make sure you check out the workshop, even if you consider yourself a 'master' builder there are a plethora of awesome works available to import into your game from a number of skilled creators.

A prequel to the 2015 "Rebel Galaxy", here you play that game's main character's aunt. As a result the game keeps the "Old West in Space" theme from the previous. However, where in the original game you flew 'battleship' sized ships, in this one you are back in standard space fighter sim 'fighter class' ships. Otherwise the gameplay loop is mostly the same only in better resolution and prettier graphics.

The soundtrack has no right being as awesome as it is, which also continues the tradition from the original. However this time the company has made concessions to the streaming crowd and both includes as 'streamer friendly' toggle and a boilerplate letter you can send to your platform if you receive a DMCA claim while streaming in that mode.

Altogether I'm loving the game so far and will enjoy seeing how the events of this game led up to the events of the previous.
