Such an addicting title. I played on Hard mode and it already pushes me well beyond the normal effort I put in for a game, and I absolutely love that it challenges me to actually learn and adapt to the game's rhythm. Extremely frustrating at times, but the satisfaction when beating a boss or a group encounter that's been trouncing you for many, many attempts is unparalleled. Definitely not a beat em up where you can button mash your way through.

Pretty great, I see why so many are calling this GOTY. The gameplay is easily the highlight, every character has a unique mechanic and they all feel so fun to use. Tying the MP (called AP in this game) mechanic to attacking/parrying is fantastic, and makes the combat feel so much more rewarding and enjoyable compared to running around until you run out of MP. Enemy variety is great and they all feel very fun to learn and defeat. I also really like the Pictos system and how you can memorize them so all characters can use them, makes for some hilariously broken builds.

The story is also really good, it actually had me engaged and interested throughout which is admittedly pretty rare for a video game story. The characters being as well-written and likable here make the bleak, tragic story and themes hit so much harder, hats off to the voice actors for making their characters so empathetic.

The music and the art direction are also exceptional - both perfectly convey the grand scale of the world and characters, the melancholy of the state of the world, the wild imagination and curiosity that comes from seeing new creatures, and the inner turmoils and struggles that each character experiences.

All of this for $50 is a steal, especially in this economy. If you're already a fan of JRPGs, this game should be a no-brainer to pick up. And even if you're not a fan of turn-based combat, the gameplay loop is unique and different enough to where I believe you can get something out of this.

My expectations were already high, but Neowiz has exceeded even that. This entire expansion feels like one big flex from the studio to demonstrate just how far they've come and how much more they can refine the experience of an already great game. I am confident in calling this one of the greatest expansions I have ever played, as it thoroughly elevates the experience of the original game in both gameplay and story.

The storytelling takes a huge leap forward, which is ironic since we go back in time, before the events of the main story. The Bloodborne inspirations are on full display here, there are many similarities between this DLC and The Old Hunters expansion, but Overture takes the overall structure and spins it into its own unique vision. We finally get to see characters that were constantly referenced and talked about in the main story, and every single character is so memorable and unique - The Legendary Stalker and the final boss are highlights of an already exceptional DLC.

And as expected, the difficulty is ramped up considerably compared to the base game, and I think it's a great step for the studio to introduce difficulty levels, I'm not going to lie and say that there aren't any sections that are frustrating, and lowering the difficulty is a great way to lower the burden and stress and make the game actually fun to play for some people. Despite the high difficulty, many of the boss fights (with the exception of the very first one and an NPC fight), feel very fair and rewarding to defeat. The new Legion Arms are fantastic to use, and the new weapons are amazing - there's a gunblade weapon here that is now my go-to because it's just so damn fun to use.

Like the base game and like other Souls-like games, this is not for everyone. But if you're a fan, you need to experience this immediately, I can't stress enough how much of a leap forward this is for Neowiz as a studio, and I cannot wait to see what they have planned next.

I'm playing through it on NG+7 and it's manageable. Collect the scadutree blessings, learn the movesets, use spirit ashes if you really need help, it's that simple.

I'm honestly pretty mixed on this entry. While there is certainly a lot to love, which I'll get into, I was honestly really disappointed with how the main story and various character arcs turned out.

The biggest improvement from Y7 is the gameplay. It's much more refined and the difficulty curve is a lot fairer, there's no crazy difficulty spike like the fight against Majima and Saejima in Y7. I really liked how they incorporated normal attacks so it wasn't useless anymore, the new jobs are all pretty great at what they do and it's a lot more versatile which encourages levelling multiple jobs instead of sticking to one broken job like in 7. My only real issue with the new gameplay is that I found the buff/debuffs to be too weak, you have to waste multiple turns to get them to a level that actually felt effective.

Many of the new characters introduced are also pretty fantastic. I absolutely loved Tomizawa and Chitose as both party members and how they were written, honestly I liked them more than Nanba and Saeko respectively. Also great seeing Seonhee crush out on Kiryu, an unexpected but adorable side to her. But the true highlight is easily Yutaka Yamai. This guy is definitely a fan favorite in the making a-la Goro Majima, and I expect him to make an appearance in any future Yakuza game. Also helps that he's voiced by DIO himself.

The graphics are great as usual for a Dragon Engine game, while it doesn't look as clean as Lost Judgment, they have massively improved the lighting from Y7. The soundtrack also slaps, if there's one thing this series has never missed on, it's the music. No complaints there.

Now for the negatives. Let's start with the side content: They're all pretty disappointing. The substories are extremely lackluster in this game, which is especially disappointing since a good portion of the humor this series has is derived from the wacky substories. The more interesting substories are simply rehashed from previous games. Dondoko Island is also an absolute chore and I could not be any less interested in it. What a massive downgrade from the confectionary minigame from Y7. Sujimon collecting was also a bore, and the dungeon crawling became too repetitive. It's actually kinda funny this game came out around the same time Persona 3 Reload did because the dungeons in this game is basically just dimestore Tartarus. The minigames I've never really played in any other Yakuza game, and I skipped those here too. Didn't care for them.

The main issue I have with this game is how the main story progresses. It's extremely predictable, about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face, and just really really boring in general. Pacing is a big problem in general, and while nowhere near as egregious as Yakuza 5's pacing was, cutscenes felt like they went on forever which is really aggravating when you can already predict what's gonna happen. I did praise the minor villains like Yamai and I also enjoyed Dwight Mendez, but the main villains are just so disappointing and lame. Ebina and Bryce have no aura despite having a lot of influence, and Ebina in particular has 0 buildup which makes his fight unmemorable, he's easily the least interesting final boss that Kiryu has ever faced.

I was also not a big fan with the direction the game took with a lot of the characters. They basically undo everything that the gang had accomplished in 7, introduce a potential romance between Kasuga and Saeko that has no satisfying conclusion, and most disappointing of all, the reunion between Kasuga and his birth mother is barely given any screentime at all. They also really go hard on the inherent evilness of social media, as if they didn't already tackle this issue with some actual nuance in Lost Judgment a few years earlier. A lot of the biggest moments in The Man Who Erased His Name is also undone in this game, to the point where that title feels pointless to play through now. Also a minor gripe I have is that mfing sex trafficker Jun Oda got a remembrance for the Dragon's Awakening mechanic over so many other characters that Kiryu actually liked and had a meaningful connection with, makes no sense.

Overall I did enjoy my time with this game but was disappointed by the direction the story took. The gameplay is a step forward but the story is two steps back. Maybe wait for a sale before getting this.

As my first ever experience with a CRPG, it took me quite some time to get into it, I admit. But when the game finally clicked for me, I never wanted to stop playing, and I spend every moment I'm not playing this wishing I was. Not a lot of games have that pull on me, but BG3 currently does. This is a ridiculous achievement not just in video game development but in software engineering, the sheer amount of content and freedom is unparalleled with any game I've ever played; out of all the games with the tag "choices matter", this game stands on top, every little thing feels like they have tangible consequences down the line, even if it's hours and hours ahead.

I can't shower enough praises on this game - I loved the combat, the characters, the dialogues and unique interactions, the soundtrack, the storyline, and the RNG elements. Whatever criticisms I have (poor inventory UI and being unable to recruit Minthara normally in a good playthrough are my biggest ones) don't even come close to taking away from the experience. Well deserved GOTY, none of the other nominees even come close, and I LOVED some of the other GOTY nominees.

Judgment was a pretty good game, but wow, this is such a massive improvement over the first that I can't see myself going back to it after playing this. Other than having a story that is slightly better paced, there is nothing JE does that LJ doesn't do a 100x better.

The biggest improvement, by far, is the combat system. After years of playing through the Yakuza series, I can finally say there is a Yakuza game whose combat system has surpassed Yakuza 0's. So much more fluid, so many options, no more mortal blows, the returning styles got major tweaks and the new styles are fantastic in their own rights, and being able to mix them up and juggle enemies like it was Tekken is exhilarating. From this point forward, every beat-em-up style Yakuza title should strive to reach this level. If you can't juggle enemies in newer titles, it's immediately inferior to this game.

The story is also fantastic, and while it's not quite as compelling as JE's story was, LJ more than makes up for it with who is probably the best antagonist in the entire series. Yakuza games have always had a tendency to adopt a very black and white moral view throughout their storyline, and this is the first time we've gotten such a morally gray character and dilemma in the series, I loved it. All the new characters and antagonists introduced are so memorable.

Technical aspects are also vastly improved. This is, without question, the best looking any game in the Yakuza series has ever been. The Dragon Engine has been perfected so that the prerendered cutscenes look worse than actual in-game cutscenes, and the lighting has also been improved drastically (especially from Y7's awful lighting). The soundtrack is great, and the new QOL improvements are welcome. I can't believe it took this long to be able to fast travel from anywhere.

If I had to point out some flaws in the game though, it would definitely be the school subplot with the MRC, because some of the minigames are definitely better than others. Boxing, robot club, dancing, girl's bar, they were fun and interesting. The others, not so much, and some of them, especially the biker race, just got really repetitive and frustrating. The substories were also pretty lacking for the most part although there were still some wacky and hilarious ones. However, I'm really glad they removed the text messages about the Neo Keihin Gang, that was one of the worst parts of the original JE because it was so annoying.

The flaws overall are minor however, and this is easily one of the best games that RGG has ever put out, and I genuinely hope a third game is in the works somewhere down the line. Powerful story, memorable and interesting characters, a fantastic antagonist that acts as a dark mirror to the protagonist, an extremely fluid combat system that makes me want to engage in random battles instead of running away, and some great minigames, this game has almost everything I could ever want in an RGG title.

Easy to hate on it at this point, but the game genuinely has never been in a better state than it is today. Other than some balancing and matchmaking issues, this is the most fun I've had in Overwatch in years, and I thank Marvel Rivals for lighting a fire under the dev team's asses.

Just might be my all-time favorite platformer game. The artstyle is adorable and pleasant, the music is phenomenal, and each level introduces a new mechanic so each level feels wholly unique. Also being able to unlock harder variants of each level means you can spend a good amount of hours without the game feeling stale or repetitive. The game is brutally difficult as you'd expect from any platformer game, but it's hard to get mad when it's THIS good. Get this ASAP, you won't regret it.

Despite this game feeling amateurish in several different aspects, it manages to remain endearing and entertaining by totally committing to the grimdark atmosphere, something not seen in the franchise since 1991. The gunplay is serviceable (although once you gain the ability to use plasma rifles most of your arsenal will be discarded quickly) and the tension you get when sneaking past and hiding from Terminator units is great. Mechanics such as lockpicking and hacking were intuitive and didn't feel annoying, the skill tree is mostly good, and the soundtrack for the game rips.

The weakest aspects of the game are the story and the relationships you have with NPCs you find throughout the game. The story isn't terrible by any means but it's really generic and uninteresting for most of the game, however the closed loop ending is pretty cool. The NPCs are all boring and the roleplay experience offered is just incredibly shallow, this entire thing could be removed from the game and it would not be affected negatively. The sex scenes are also just awkward, mainly due to the fact that the animations for this game isn't exactly the best.

If you're a fan of the first two Terminator films, I do think it's worth checking out since even with its generic story, it still blows all of the pathetic, terrible sequels past T2 out of the water. The devs behind this game captured the aesthetic of the first two films and scattered some neat easter eggs throughout each level, and it really shows that this game was made by genuine fans and I respect that. However, you may want to wait for a sale to get it, since the game itself is pretty short and there is basically no replay value in my opinion.
