Native Tracker: "Western game dev been here."
Tourist: "How can you tell?"
Native Tracker: "Uglified women characters."

It's strange how those who were saying "Stolen Native Land" are now the ones inviting anyone unchecked onto that land while we're still here.

ZOOM: The Parry Ages: A Zoomer Shooter Parry Mechanic

TL;DR: I hope you love a little bit of DOOM in your parry mechanic spam; wait for a good sale on a step backwards in almost everything but graphics - truly the Dark Ages of the DOOM franchise. It's decent for a while but then becomes too gimmicky with multiplayer completely removed for obvious reasons. Yes, Virginia, the series that started professional gaming no longer has multiplayer.

It's fun for shieldzerker gameplay, has plenty of great moments, but it's really overproduced and under-delivering compared to DOOM 2016 (among so many other games that are either switching to gimmicks or going to filler content). If we're going by the $/hr valuation at the arcades instead of the usual Gamer Hamburger analogy (I saw someone just get to bread earlier lol) then since I got it free with a graphics card it was... still pretty disappointing compared to DOOM 2016.

After wiping my feet to 100% completion on this game, I went back to DOOM 2016 and re-played it for a much better time. "Dark Ages" definitely describes where the series is at now. The first DOOM game without multiplayer.

The "story" is some half-assed He-Man heavy lifting in Hell and Beyond. The walking WMD is being girlbossed around by a character that does nothing but give orders, get captured, Captain Obvious, become the deus ex machina, then shows up the Slayer in setting lore and... yeah, I'm going to call it now: GG Doom Slayer, we've found the next DOOM's Terminator: Dark Fate-style replacement for John Connor.

It looks good, runs amazing on the target hardware, but isn't going to be worth anything more than $40 for most with the current content level once the gilt chips off to show the cracks. There's simultaneously lacking of the same content as DOOM 2016 because of the focus on narrative content and yet also more grind in the masteries through those stretched-out narrative levels. I hope you like walking. Not like that grind means much here except for another skin. In 2016 completing the masteries enhanced the weapon, here it is a skin.

The core gameplay loop:
10 Shield Charge Bumper Cars!
20 Super Shotgun/Chainshot
30 Block / "Glory Kill" Bumper Cars!
40 GOTO 20

There is no ammo conservation needed, especially once you receive the Dreadmace that refills your ammo on melee hit. You don't even need to find chainsaw fuel anymore.

If it's dragon or mech combat it's even simpler and more disappointing: parry mechanics

Dragon and mech combat consists primarily of locking on with required dodge of enemy attacks to power up your own vehicle attacks to simply be able to damage the enemy. What is this corposlop consolitis "Han Shot Second" energy doing in a DOOM game?

There is now a literal "Secret Key" to pick up in many levels. It opens "Secret Doors" you can see like any other door, out in the open and on the map. Peak 2025 FPS design, yo.

The worst part is how DOOM's meaty Berserk Mode has been tuned down into ZOOM's Slightly Impolite Mode with the loss of many glory kills and loss of bloody kills in exchange for... Bumper Cars! Berserk is now just Discount Quad Damage.

id has forged a shield to go with Daikatana.
What a coincidence on the 25th anniversary of John Romero making us all his ♥♥♥♥♥.

Gothic 1 Remake current collection of ignored feedback with dates for how long ignored:

Scavenger giant birds of prey are now raptor dinosaurs with skulls on their heads like Cubone from Pokemon (2021): https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3630453976

Harpies (2023): https://ibb.co/LD2RqT8K

Women hostages sent by the king to the prison mine as hostages for ore the king needs for his war, as literal "damsels in distress" to detail how vile the lead prison usurper Gomez acts (2025): https://imgur.com/TELZfLZ

The "Community Manager's" insults towards Slavic women as being a reason for any of this being noticed in 2025: https://ibb.co/qF38SDkv

THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive have clearly not been listening to community feedback for years. Their doing their own nonsense, ignoring feedback and insulting a good part of their core audience for sake of a new audience who won't notice that Kirgo was given hip-hop hair. :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

And now for bad use of AI. I feel I can't speak about AI being more faithful to remake than corposlop devs without mentioning devs that went from imaginative work to make AI slop.

The Dims :BL3Thumbsup:

Look out, EA!
I find it kind of funny KSH have trademarked "Roman Engineers" - maybe this time they'll achieve water without Modders Will Fix It™ as they're hoping AI Will Fix It instead?

Because it would be quite funny to have "Roman Engineers" without working aqueducts, but so very KSH to have a castle building game without basic moats.

That was the most unrealistic part of Stranger Things. "Fireball the Demogorgon!" was the first sign, but then... no mention of the Fauci AIDS Pandemic™ when that was everywhere in the mid-80s because of artists dying? Nobody would have come out like that in 1987 or had the group hug and cry / everyone clapped. That is just revisionist nonsense in an era where some of our favorite artists expressed themselves in class - people could already tell then because of "social constructs".

Ayds, however, was a product released a bit before then to a bad bit of timing, which some of us were expecting to be used in the series as an easy joke.

Oh right, that would have been an actual Gen X joke and offended people.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I was going to say it here earlier as well, but it's been like herding cats and dogs, living together, mass hysteria. That fun season! :cold_mechanic:
