I've waited until 0.2 released with the AI update to write a review for the game. I wanted the previous placeholder system to be addressed, before writing an honest review of the game.

Before I continue, I want to make it perfectly clear on three points.

1. I am a volunteer moderator for the Steam Discussion area and Twitch chat.
2. I had nearly 120 hours in the game before applications even opened so I greatly enjoyed the game before applying.
3. Volunteers are not employed by MFG, nor do we have access to any information that has not been released publicly via dev streams, announcements or forum posts.

~~~
My specs:
Windows 11 Pro 64 Bit
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti w 12 GB GDDR6X
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Processor @ 4.70 GHz
32 GB DDR5 RAM @ 4800 MT/s
With this system, I'm able to get 70-90 FPS @ 1440p with all settings maxed out using DLSS and no Super resolution settings (100% resolution scale). If I enable Frame Gen, That jumps up to around 90-110 FPS. Seeing as I cap my frames to 60 FPS, I have no need for Frame Gen.
~~~ ~~~ ~~~

Visuals:

The game looks stunning. The jungles are properly dense, lights cast sun shafts through foliage, obstacles, your weapon, etc. and the shadows look great. Transititions between day and night are smooth and fluid. Open areas are dominated by rice and corn fields and the urban areas vary from small fishing villages to dense strip malls and military bases.

There are some issues though. LOD seems to break on buildings beyond a couple hundred meters when using optics.

Lastly, the game is first-person only.

~~~
Sound:
The sounds in game are hit and miss. Some things sound great while others, not so much. Gunshots feel satisfying for AKs but M4s are a bit more meh in terms of feedback. Judging the range of gunshots is hampered by this as there are times when gunshots from two hundred meters away on the opposite side of town sound like they're right next to you.
Ambient sounds also suffer from this. Some sounds play far too loudly or too often like frogs and mosquitoes Other sounds like birds and monkeys are very quiet. But these are minor inconveniences to me and don't make or break the experience.
~~~

Gameplay - I'm going to separate this into several categories. Overall gameplay, Controls/Gunplay/Movement, Enemy AI and the Tasks/Quests system.

Overall Gameplay: Know that this game is PvE-centric. If you're wanting a great PvP experience, you will not find it here. There are optional PvEvP servers but I don't go to them because I don't care about it. But for those who only want PvE, there are servers where there is no damage from other players.

When you launch the game for the first time, you'll be prompted to create a character. You can edit their looks, the faction they're in and the username you want to use. The most important thing here is the faction choice. In PvE, this will dictate who you can create a squad with. If you're playing with friends, you will need to all select the same faction. Failing to do so will make it nearly impossible to join the same server as someone else in a different faction. In PvP modes, this also dictates who your allies are and who your enemies are. You can wipe your character seven days after you created it if you want to start again.

If you die, you have an hour to get back to your body. If you don't, your body and gear disappears. If you die while travelling to your body, the first corpse disappears. AI respawn somewhere between fifteen and thirty minutes. More than enough time to retrace your route back to your corpse safely.

Controls: The controls are very customizable, allowing you to rebind almost every function to a press, hold or double-tap. A few things are strange like you cant bind one key to certain multiple functions like "Sprint" and "Hold Breath" to Shift but that's easily circumvented by setting "Hold Breath" to Right Click plus Shift.

Gunplay: This can feel a little slow and clunky in a tense gunfight but not to the point of being frustrating. For example, I carry three mags on me and at least two stacks of loos ammo that allow me to repack magazines four times. In a gunfight, I have the ability to fully expend the magazines before being forced to repack but I've never gotten to that point. Every lull in a fight, I'll open my inventory and drag loose ammo into my partial mags and be ready in less than ten seconds.

Most of the ammo types seem to be useful if employed in the right circumstances. Buckshot, Soft Point and Hollow Point for unarmored targets, FMJs for lightly armored targets and more improved AP rounds as well as Slugs for the more heavily armored ones.

Sniping feels a bit weak at longer distances feels unsatisfying, especially with the aforementioned LOD issues. As such, I rarely engage beyond fifty or seventy-five meters. I see no point to it and that will tie into my enemy AI portion coming up.

With the coming of 0.2, a day/night cycle was introduced that brought night vision devices, lights and lasers. The Gen 1 NVGs are bad. They do improve with Gen 2s and Gen 3s. These are not just green filters slapped on you screen. They mimic real NVGs by making magnified optics harder to use, cause a severe loss in depth of field and cause blurriness at CQB ranges. So you are constantly flipping them up or down depending on the circumstances.

Movement: Movement feels realistic. We're not super soldiers. Unencumbered, a player can run approximately two hundred meters before getting winded. As he puts on gear, loads things into his bag and carries a weapon, that distance drops drastically. You'll be lucky to sprint 50 meters without getting winded while toting thirty kilos or more of gear. You're able to mantle over walls slightly higher than your head, wade (you don't swim but move through water in a "weapon-high" stance with water not going higher than your chest), can lean, kneel and go prone. So, you have your basic movements you'd expect in any shooter.

Enemy AI: For close range engagements, the AI feels solid. They're difficult but not unfair. As long as you use cover, don't make noise abd move slowly and methodically, you can clear out entire zones solo. They know where they last saw you and will fire blindly towards that area or just wait for you to peek from there again. If they hear you rustling vegetation, they'll shoot in that direction if they know you're in the area. That being said, the enemy is certainly capable of killing you in one good shot. At longer ranges is where I hear the most complaints. There are issues, but not to the level of sensationalist claims you see.

They can become hyper aware and they do react. At longer ranges, if your round passes near closer enemies, they will all react to that shot, not just the guy way in the distance you're engaging. There are some server desynch issues that make them feel a bit sponge-y but those are fairly intermittent. There are very few times I've felt my death was unfair. They're currently unable to use grenades but they do employ flanking and suppression tactics.

Tasks/Quests: The game has a simple task system. You receive tasks from vendors which you will go out into the world to complete, return to base, turn in those tasks and get new ones. Completing tasks improves relations with that vendor, unlocking new stock as they level up. You also receive money and gear as a reward. Fairly simple. The difficult part comes from the fact that there is no HUD elements to aid in completing them. You need to read the tasks descriptions and objectives which do very well at getting you into the general area. From there, you will need to find what you're looking for via manually searching. No arrows, no beacons. Just your eyes. Was someone last seen near the offices at city hall? Go explore the buildings that resemble an office, not a home or store, near city hall. Has a weapons cache been emptied, follow the road leading from it and search for clues.

Edit: Sony has claimed they're not going through with this change right now but they have not said whether it's going to be an option in the future or what else to expect going forward. Also, the 180 regions the game was delisted for are still delisted. As such, this review will remain negative until those countries regain access to the game. After that, I will remove this review entirely as Arrowhead has shown that they can not be trusted after this when the CEO said he knew this was coming but didn't let players know. You do not deserve a positive review but rolling back this decision does, at least, warrant removing the negative review.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A wonderfully fun game that is actively being ruined by Sony.
I have over 250 hours in the game and have owned it since it released. Enjoyed almost every minute of it. Now, after four (?) months, Sony has decided they're not happy with Steam owners not having to make a PSN account and are now forcing the issue.
If Sony was a trustworthy company, I wouldn't have an issue with this requirement BUT they have shown they do not care about their customers. Data breaches almost every year? I've yet to hear about Valve having data breaches so why in the hell is Sony having them so much?
If they are adamant on forcing this requirement, I will be requesting a refund. They are actively attempting to acquire personal data NOT required to play the game while not trying to protect that information.
First thing: I can't give this a neutral rating so I'm giving it a thumbs up with a few caveats that you can read below.
This was written as of patch 1.2.4 and twenty-five hours of playtime.
Call of the Wild: The Angler is the companion title of The Hunter: Call of the Wild. While TH is all about hunting various species of land mammals and fowl, TA is all about fishing. As expected of an Expansive Worlds title, the environments are visually top-notch with a ton of area to explore. Right now, there are two locations; Golden Ridge Reserve in the United States and Trollsporet Nature Reserve in Norway.
I've only played Golden Ridge Reserve and during that time, I've completed all of the basic stuff such as discovering all outposts, vistas and observation posts. I've also finished collecting everything hidden across the map such as coins, lost items, animal statuettes and notes. I haven't touched the fishing much but I've done it enough to get a decent idea of how it works.
This is a promising title that I hope gets the same amount of attention as The Hunter as I've been in search of a good fishing title for quite a long time. Unlike most others I've played, this does not feel like a cash grab title that is trying to milk you for every penny you have.
Currently, you have float fishing and spin fishing. I'm hoping for fly fishing and bottom fishing, as well as salt-water fishing some time in the future but I don't know if any of those are in the works. You can fish during the day or the night and you do not have to pay for licenses or travel costs. Golden Ridge Reserve has twelve species of fish to catch; Large and Smallmouth Bass, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Yellow Perch, Northern Pike, Kokanee Salmon, Sauger, Golden/LakeRainbow Trout and Mountain Whitefish. Species are split into six tiers; Juvenile, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond and Legendary. Each tier and species affects how much experience and money you earn per catch. Money is used to buy new gear that ranges from tackle to clothing to new skins for your boat and vehicle.
My biggest issue with the game, so far, is how often it crashes at seemingly random intervals. In my twenty hours of playtime, it's probably crashed more than a dozen times. This wouldn't be so bad if it didn't reset your time of day. Whenever you enter a reserve, it defaults to noon. If I want to do some night fishing, I have to wait for it to roll around, hoping I don't crash beforehand. We really need a sleep feature like in The Hunter so we can fast-forward to any time of the day.
My other complaint is that it doesn't work with Remote Play properly. I've posted a message in the game's discussion area and the Remote Play discussion area, as well as contacted Apex via their customer support site without a reply so far. My only option to play remotely is to launch another game, then tab out and launch it from the host PC's game list since it doesn't appear on the client computer's list of streamable games.
That's, really, my only major concerns with the game right now. Fishing isn't too hard or too easy as long as you're willing to deal with a bit of trial and error, unless you want to look at a guide that outlines everythign for you. It's a great pick-up and put-down fishing game. I don't have to dedicate a large chunk of time to playing, nor do I feel like I can't put it down at a moment's notice.
Final Fantasy 10 was my first foray into the franchise when it first released on the Playstation 2 in the early 2000s followed by 10-2 (Ten-Two). I was happy to see this arrive on PC as I've not owned a console since the PS2 days, so missed out on the remastered versions. For both the good bad bad, Square did exceptionally well porting this to PC. Wonderful characters and places, along with some frustratingly difficult side quests (Screw you Cactuar Redlight/Greenlight). I haven't started X-2 yet but if it is as well ported as X, was, I'll be happy.
Halo is one of the most iconic game franchises out there, with Master Chief standing beside Mario, Sonic, Link and Solid Snake.
I hadn't played a Halo title since Halo 2 on the original XBox so I was extremely delighted to see this collection of games. They're just as fun as I remember them and I was so glad to catch up on the Chief's story. There isn't much I can say is bad about this collection, other than Halo 5 is not part of it. I've heard it's bad but I'd still love to have the entire collection, y'know.
This is a great way to relive the Dragon Ball Z story.
It has been nearly twenty years since I last watched DBZ. Rather than sit through 300+ half hour episodes of filler, I decided to purchase this title. I was pleasantly surprised at this abridged version of the franchise. Despite being called DBZ Kakarot, you actually play as several characters throughout the story, not just Son Goku.
The game starts off with the Sayan Saga and Raditz arriving on Earth. You progress through the game in chapters with several chapters per saga. Each chapter can have between one and three different fights, interspersed with dialogue to move the story along and side missions/open world combat to level up. There is no real grind as story battles give huge sums of experience that will keep you at level for the content you're playing.
There are a total of five primary fighters in the game and seven support fighters. Primary fighters include Son Goku, Son Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta and Future Trunks. These are the main characters you'll progress through the story as. They will be accompanied by secondary fighters which you can have up to two of, depending on what the story allows. Support fighters include Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, Android 18, Kid Trunks and Kid Goten.
The base game content goes through the Saiyan, Frieza, Cell and Buu sagas. Progressing through these sagas unlock new transformations for the primary characters that can be toggled in combat if your Ki meter is full enough. These transformations generally drain ki until you unlock the next one. For example, Son Goku, when he first becomes a Super Saiyan will slowly drain Ki while in the Super Saiyan form until he becomes Super Saiyan 2, at which point his SS1 form no longer drains ki.
Son Guku's first transformation is the Kaio-ken up to Super Saiyan 3.
Son Gohan's first transformation is Super Saiyan up to Potential Unleashed by Old Kai.
Vegeta first transformation is Super Saiyan up to Super Saiyan Second Grade.
Piccolo 's only transformation is his True Namekian Fusion.
Future Trunks' first transformation is Super Saiyan up to Super Saiyan 2.
At certain points in the game, you'll play as fused fighters. These are temporary forms than can not be done whenever you want. They include Vegito (Vegeta and Son Goku) and Gotenks (Kid Trunks and Kid Goten).
Once you've progressed through the main story, you can play the DLCs. A New Power Awakens Pt 1 adds Super Saiyan God (Super Saiyan Red) forms for Son Goku and Vegeta while A New Power Awakens Pt 2 adds Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Super Saiyan Blue) for Son Goku and Vegeta while raising level cap to 300.
The last DLC is Trunks: The Warior of Hope. It takes place in the future where Son Goku died from his heart virus and all of the Z-Warriors are dead at the hands of Androids 17 and 18. The only one left are Son Gohan and Trunks.
Overall, I highly recommend this game for anyone who wishes to experience the Dragon Ball Z story as long as you go into it knowing that this is not a deep RPG title and the fighting isn't that deep either.
An extremely boring story in the Star Wars universe.
I was hoping for something on par with The Force Unleashed or KotOR and this is not it.
The main character, Cal Kestis, is a Jedi-in-hiding who is discovered on a planet where ships are dismantled and salvaged. He's a boring, one-dimensional lead who I haven't grown fond of in any way after eight hours of gameplay. He gets rescued by an ex-Jedi who has cut herself off from the force but has tasked him with the job of rebuilding the Jedi order. From there, you are playing a game of galactic hopscotch, going from planet to planet to find recordings of her former master that will lead to something. I've honestly forgotten at this point.
Along the way, you can find lightsaber parts and character clothing/ship skins. Lightsaber parts are purely cosmetic, with the beam color being the only thing you will really notice. The grip and all that aren't really something you notice while playing. Force powers are re-discovered on each planet but, so far, these seem to be mainly used for terrain navigation (wall running, force push, force slow, etc.) though they have limited usability in combat, as you have a "force-meter" that empties far too quickly to make their usage in combat really effective.
Combat is punishing, especially when facing larger, fast moving enemies or BS elite-troopers in large numbers that will lock you into a stunned state. Two or three hits and you're dead. You get a handful of health stims to use ad they will replenish when you reach a save point but using a save point automatically respawns all enemies, meaning you have to fight through them again and waste those stims. Whenever you die, you lose all exp you have gained since you last touched a save point, which is far from fun.
Levels are pretty linear, having to come back at a later date to get to a new area you couldn't reach without a certain force power.
Visually, the game looks pretty good at 1080p and sounds are pretty good as wells but the lack of an interesting story and pseudo-open levels leaves much to be desired. It is also disappointing that lightsabers don't dismember enemies. It will cut creatures in half but, apparently, stormtrooper armor is un-cuttable.
All-in-all, I would give this game a three or four out of ten in terms of fun and enjoyability. I will, most likely, end up using Cheat Engine for infinite force meter and health as I don't see myself slogging through this game without it.
This is a review of Professional Fishing version 1.1.5
This is the third fishing game I've tried on Steam. I first tried Fishing Planet and, though it started out well, changes to the game made playing it more of a chore than a joy.
You can find my review for it here:
https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/id/JonathanJOneill/recommended/380600/
I then moved on to Russian Fishing 4 but I found it far too grindy and the RPG-esque design of skills killed the game's fun factor for me, though I did enjoy its bottom fishing.
PF is a casual fishing game from the start to the end. There are no licenses that you must own to fish at specific waterways, nor is the economy punishing to anyone who does not have a whole lot of free time to put into the game.
There are six waterways that open as you level up. France, Russia, Poland, Germany and two North American waterways. Upon selecting a waterway, you are given the option to join one of one hundred rooms for the first three lakes or fifty rooms for the last three lakes. You can see how many people are in a room before joining or tell a friend what room you're in so they can join you. You can see other anglers in the same room as you and, while they can block your vision if they stand right in front of you, there is plenty of space to move around if it happens. Beyond that, the only other interaction with others is via text chat.
There are, currently, no limits on inventory space. You can buy and equip multiple backpacks, rod cases, etc to expand your inventory if you're the type of player that wants to carry everything with them, I'm one of those players who wants everything at my fingertips, though there is no punishment for leaving a lake and coming back. There are no licenses, traveling fees or fines in game. The only limitation is your level. Leveling is a fairly simple process. Catch fish, get money and exp, unlock new gear, buy new gear.
Every waterway has a varied assortment of fish. Every waterway has carp of some type (except the last one), for example, but only a couple have catfish. And, despite a waterway opening up at a higher level, it may not be better than a low level area. Enchanted Rivers, the third waterway you can go to, which unlocks at level 15 is probably the best place to level up and make money. First with Salmon and then with Catfish once you have the gear to land them.
There are two vehicle types you can purchase, ATVs and boats. ATVs allow you to move along the ground much more quickly while boats allow you to move along water. Boats can have either paddles or a motor or both. Maps do get progressively larger and take time to traverse on foot but never to the point that you feel like you're being punished for not owning an ATV to move around. However, a boat is a must for the last waterway, Bass Marshland (Level 31) as it is comprised of a lot of water with islands dotted around. Boats are affordable though. You can get your first boat as early as Level 1 for 4990 Credits. It's slow but serviceable. The best boat is a motorboat that looks like your standard bassboat. It costs 80,000 Credits. To put that into perspective, by the time you need a boat for the last map, you'll be catching fish worth 500+ Credits each.
On the subject of currency, there is only one. There are no premium currencies though there is an optional subscription that gives you a few perks. One is access to VIP only areas on each map. It might sound like a big deal but I've never felt like I was being punished for not being able to fish in it. The other benefits are basically increases to exp and credit gain and access to equipment five levels earlier than usual. Again, nothing I felt was a major issue not having.
There is not much bad I can say about the game. If I had to complain, it would be minor issues. There is no reel speed shift modifier. You have to manually raise or lower your retrieve speed between casting, retrieving, fighting and landing a fish. You can't just hold shift to reel in at max speed and then cast and retrieve at a slower speed. There is also a few UI quibbles but nothing major. The store page doesn't remember your sorting preference between screen changes, your reeling speed is hard to see at times as it's a dark gray that is not clearly segmented and the in-game wiki is woefully missing information.
All-in-all, I think PF is a solid fishing game. It's not a sim but it does not have to be to be enjoyable. While it seems that development has slowed down, I do believe that the devs are still working on it and updates will be coming in the near future. That being said, I'm happy with the game in its current state and wouldn't be disappointed if development stopped.
