This is the worst audio in a game I have ever experienced. Have played thousands of games. Most NES games have better audio than this. I don't even know where to begin.
And to be clear I am no audio master audiophile. But this sound design and sound glitches, and just horrible implementation combine to make something so offensive I am in disbelief.
The 'Music' uses random sounds, no tune really, no themes, just random instrument noises. OK fine, but so does the UI sounds! so you have a bongo randomly playing, then you drum roll one while I loot stuff? Why?
And a flute randomly, and all of this random drum nonsense in the music track but I can't hear the giant robot dino 12 feet away stomping around? - The audio design itself is just amazing, I just started laughing at one point and alt-f4, like I cannot believe this got released like this ...3 times? LOL and the delay, and sync, and the cutoff, and why can you not blend?
Then we have the glitches, dialog is just a mess of levels and tones. I am not sure what is going on but some people sound like they are behind a wall and then someone else shouts like they are 0.5 inches from your left ear, in the same dialog! amazing.
The sound itself is not given any thread priority it seems? So it crackles and pops under pressure of any kind. the 'music' cuts out random pops all the time. Audio in general stutters and pops, the who game sounds like it is stuttering and broken.
And then there is the soundtrack. The most bland tone, beat, theme in a game ever. I cannot believe anyone would bother playing a track like this in the BG, like for all this scope and effort to make all this game, where is my thematic anchor as a player? I just shake my head, Audio is Half your output guys. you have visuals, audio, and maybe haptics. For an otherwise awesome game you have Failed at audio.

Masahiro Sakurai says there is only one common thing timeless masterpieces have in common: Audio Design.
A game can have bad graphics, or gameplay and still be a masterpiece.
As Sakurai says then, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered 1.4 can not be a masterpiece, because the audio is beyond horrible, it is remarkably the worst audio in a game, maybe ever.

I am pretty sure the audio overall will never be fixed, the music sucks, the UI sounds, the audio mix is horrible -Fine.
But please please fix the pops, glitches, crackles, and unrelenting micro pauses. Surely this is just a thread priority tweak?

I waited for the ultimate experience of this great concept.
I am so disappointed.

Best Story, world, character of any game certainly maybe all of media, ever.
Worst core gameplay, boss battles, moving out of the orange a full second before it hits? got old in heavens weird, the dungeons are a chore and bore, you only slog it out for the story to move on.

The item and inventory stuff is horrible, just a complete waste of time trying to collect things, and this is an MMO. There is also little to no reward for exploring. The designers have no idea what Bartle Types are. Or maybe they only care about nurturing socializers and crushing killers, Because the community is famously great.
There is no way to collect effectively, or know where things come from, how things work, no announcements in game about events, no connection to anything really ever game-wise in the actual game, everything has to be found by searching the web and there is no main hub site that is useful like wowhead. No indication of raids you might miss, blue quest could be anything. the Game as an MMO game, min max stats, mastery, being competitive, collecting unlocking, completion, exploration, mechanics, is horrible. Highly recommend skipping to Heavensward. The realm reborn starting 20-30 levels will make you quit as a new player.
The game play is a mess. But. The journey is mind blowing.
A fully impossible experience to replicate in book, movie, show, really any other format. It is so visceral when you put a dragon or Ascian to the sword because of the buildup and twists. And as a game it is you doing it, not some character you are being told about. the seat of morality is yours, the pride, shame, regret. So it is an awesome game. One of the best ever made. Despite being a showcase of some of the worst game design ever.

FF14 is the greatest narrative experience humanity has ever created.

Any game that can make so many streamers weep on stream gets a big thumbs up from me. This is some emotional stuff.
Also, Ultimate will complete the story, which will be great to see how it all ends. Tristan was the main antagonist all along is my bet.

Could not get past the tutorial. Instructions were to mash A and D and then left click, I did that over and over, character died, was brought back with health but no mana, then the game became unresponsive to all input and I just quit. What a piece of garbage.
