To say that my expectations were surpassed would be the greatest understatement I could possibly make.

I hardly know where to begin with this game. The visuals are exceptional, the sound design is brilliant, the atmosphere is incredibly immersive, and the story is genuinely thought-provoking. It is the kind of narrative that stays with you long after you finish playing. In fact, I struggle to find words that properly praise it. As Todd Howard once famously said, “It just works.”

For those unfamiliar with the game, The Red Strings Club is a narrative-driven cyberpunk adventure focused on conversation, psychology, and moral choices rather than traditional action gameplay. You spend much of your time interacting with characters, mixing drinks tailored to influence emotions, and slowly uncovering pieces of a larger story involving corporations, technology, and the idea of engineered happiness. The mechanics are simple but surprisingly engaging, and they serve the narrative extremely well.

My first exposure to the game came from a 2019 video “SJW game.” by TooManyMoths. In that video she explained the premise without revealing too much of the story. Even back then, I found the concept intriguing, especially the idea of exploring human emotions and perspectives through the role of a bartender.

Fast forward a few years to a Steam Summer Sale, when I saw the game heavily discounted. I remembered that video and thought, “Why not? It’s on sale, I might as well give it a try.” Having now finished it, I can confidently say it was absolutely worth it. The amount of subtle detail, clever dialogue, and unexpected twists makes the experience far richer than I initially expected.

What really stands out is how the game approaches themes such as identity, human emotion, artificial enhancement, and the question of whether a perfectly “happy” society would truly be a good thing. It does not lecture the player, but instead presents situations that encourage you to think about your own perspective on these topics.

The writing is easily the highlight. Every character feels distinct, believable, and layered, and even short conversations often reveal meaningful insights about the world and its people. Combined with the moody pixel art and excellent soundtrack, the entire experience feels intimate and atmospheric, almost like stepping into a late-night cyberpunk bar where every conversation matters.

If you are looking for a fast-paced action game, this probably is not it. But if you enjoy story-rich games that explore philosophical ideas, human emotion, and morally complex situations, then The Red Strings Club is absolutely worth your time.

I went into this game curious but uncertain. I left it genuinely impressed.

This game is genuinely really really fun, the story is short sweet and really funny at times. The gameplay is simple but effective, and the graphics and music work so well. If you got an hour to kill, I highly recommend it as it's really enjoyable.
