Stellaris has it's problems. The DLC is expensive. And the latest 4.0 update really dropped the ball.

But I still can't stop spinning up new civs and running it back.

At $15, this is easily a recommend from me. That being said, the only reason I’m able to recommend it so easily is the very low price point.

The game is a ton of fun. I constantly found myself wowed by the varied number of ways you’re able to use the DoberKnight’s thrown sword. I distinctly remember the moment I learned you could use it to block narrow passages, or that knocking enemies into it triggered the collision mechanics.

Each run is fun, and the game does an excellent job of letting you become excessively powerful if you find all the pieces.

That being said, the game really REALLY needs some more polish. I find it difficult to read the route colors in some Biomes, and there are still (at release if you’re reading this later) a few too many bugs for the game to feel like its release ready.

Steamdeck’s default control scheme simply does not work, which is a major miss. Controller support doesn’t appear to be completed on launch.

However, even with those glaring problems I still love the game. I can’t stop playing it. It just really needs more polish, but the low cost to enter still leaves me recommending it. Fingers crossed that by the time you’re reading this review many of these issues have been fixed!

It is everything I wanted and more.

XCom2 is a perfect game.

It might not be your kind of game.

But it's a perfect game.

AC is back on the menu. Flawless.

Absolutely amazing. The game is VERY rough around the edges but the bones of a masterpiece are here.

If you're willing to put up with bugs, and some incomplete content I'd definitely recommend buying.

Otherwise, stick around. This is going to be one of the greats.

Really solid

So Stage 2 has dropped, and with it there are ALOT of changes to the base game. Most of them (80-90%) of them I find to be welcome additions, and improve the game and learning curve. Some I disagree with, but as a whole Stage 2 is a better game than it was at release.

Also, don't let the mass negative reviews sway you too much. Many of them are from the initial release (those reviews were well earned) or are a result of people whining that the game went f2p and users did not recieve a full refund. Both of which have no standing on the quality of the FREE game. I say give it a go, what do you have to lose?
