This game is now top of my all time list. I am on my second full play through, and I am already thinking about my next build. Hats off to Larian, and please please lets see a LOTR CRPG next! :)

I am not going to add to the hype train for aow4. It is a very mediocre game with only a few solid pros. I honestly believe it needs an expansion before it will be worth picking up. Onto the pros and cons:

Pro's:

- The sound and music is pretty good.
- Some of the art style is ok, but it still feels way too clean in places.
- It's a sandbox 4x fantasy game.

Con's:

- No campaign.....I mean for the price id expect at least a campaign to play through....not just a sandbox 4x fantasy game.
- Poor UI all over the place.
- No keybinds for pretty much anything.
- Boring unit choices at later tiers in many cases.
- Hero upgrade system is uninspiring and boring.
- Smaller combat map sizes and only 3 stacks per side. It just doesn't feel epic.
- Lots of optimisation problems in combat.

So much potential to actually produce a truly meaningful experience but it falls short in way too many areas right now. If they add a campaign, work on the UI, give better unit choices, a better hero system etc - then there is a chance to polish this into a winner.

4/10

It's in my top 5 games of all time even though it was sat in my steam collection for a while. If you love dungeons and dragons, and/or tabletop rpg games, then this game is for you. Beautiful graphics, story telling, voice acting and game play. There are countless builds to replay the game with, and I have only just started a tactician difficulty game. Well done Larian Studios and I hope I can write a similar review about BG3 when it releases.

My original review mentioned the poor live services performance of the game on initial release. I hope EHG have done some learning from that, for the season 2 release.

This is my favourite ARPG game of all time. Some of the key features that make that so:

- Best in class crafting system which actually has you thinking
- Best in class itemisation and loot filters
- Best in class storage and search capabilities
- Best in class skill system where you can actually create your own builds from scratch
- Great graphics and environment details, although performance can sometimes drop significantly on big pulls
- Great music and sound

This game has so much more potential and its made with love by a passionate bunch of people. EHG, make everyone proud in 2025 and beyond!

TLDR; Get this game, and you will not regret it.

Introduction
I was first introduced to Terraria in 2012 by some friends from World of Warcraft. I loaded the game up and played some multiplayer with them for no more than 30 minutes. I said, "Sorry lads, I don't think this is my type of game" - I logged off and didn't touch the game for a long while. I think I saw some youtuber or something showing the boss fights from Terraria and the building projects they had worked on. I got back into the game around 2014-2015 and told my brother about it. He was a bit reluctant to give it a go, but when we started loading up worlds and taking on the bosses in expert mode, we were both well and truly hooked.

Terraria is a builder/action/crafting/exploration game. Nothing is overly complicated to learn, but it requires time and practice to master (as with anything). Let me take you through the elements of a game I think are important and score each element.

Graphics

You show this game to your call of duty playing mates, and they think it looks like some SNES retro pixel game from the 1990s. I can honestly say that Terraria has to be one of the most beautiful games ever created. The lighting, the particle effects, the player, and the gear sprites are exquisite. I have been hooked on this type of art ever since playing Terraria. 10/10

Sound

Terraria's sound holds equal praise to its Graphics. The music, the atmosphere, the mobs, the bosses, the items. all have their own distinct sounds. Some sounds can literally put you in alert when you hear them from experience playing the game through (necromancers in the dungeon I am looking at you). The title screen music has almost become nostalgic for me and makes me confident in saying that you will be hard-pressed to find a better sounding game, ever. 10/10

Gameplay

There is incredible fun to have in fighting hordes of monsters or big bosses, switching weapons/items for tactical advantages, or even just sitting in your NPC town, building new structures, or adding touches to your imagined creations. I would love to have seen some more RPG elements to the vanilla game, but I also understand why Re-Logic didn't do that. The game feels fun to play, and there is a sense of progression when you open up tiers of new items/weapons/armor to get by downing bosses. You can play solo or in a group of up to 8 people. There is PVP and colored teams to join to facilitate the PVP elements. You will need to read the game's wiki a hell of a lot to get anywhere with crafting or game concepts (always keep it open when playing) 9/10

Story

Terraria has no story. "Gasp! What do you mean there is no story???". That's right, no story at all but the one that you make. Sounds a little wishy-washy, right? Well, I would argue that although Terraria has no story to follow directly in the game, that is one of its strongest points. You can literally build your world how you like, kill bosses that you choose (or none at all if you want). You can decide what to call your constructions, what your character wears, what dyes to color your items, what paint to use on your buildings. I love the fact that every playthrough is new and refreshing. I can choose how to do any of the games vast content, and in my own time. 9/10

Longevity

Terraria is a game you can come back to again and again and always have something to do. You can work on engineering projects like building dams or pirate ships or sprawling cloud cities. The only limitation is your imagination. Though I always recommend taking a break between playthroughs if you like to kill bosses and collect loot, to avoid burnout on boss fights and the tier system of progression through the game. With the introduction of supported mod launching in 1.4 (Journeys End) there will likely be infinite options of adding different elements to an already enormous amount of content. 10/10

Conclusion

Terraria, over the years, has cemented itself as my favorite game of all time. Only just knocking UFO Enemy Unknown (yes, the original) off the top spot. Re-logic (the game development studio and publisher) have made this masterpiece stand tall in a plethora of AAA game titles. You will find moments of awe, excitement, anger, empathy, and pure adrenaline while playing Terraria. This game is not to be missed by any serious gamer, and please, please, please - if you do stop playing immediately (like I did), pick the game back up a little while later and give it another go.

Final Score: 9.6
