I've made hundreds of maps in the over 600 hours that I've used Dungeon Alchemist. The end-use-case is for a 12' battlemap projected down, via Arkenforge, onto a 14' long, hundred-year table in a D&D social club that hosts ttrpg games seven days a week.

With publishing quality output in mind, no other application comes close to the visual fidelity, speed, and ease of use of DA. I simply could not do my job--creating maps for professional DMs, myself included--at this level, without DA.

As much as I like to lament the rise of the linear, corridor shooter, Dark Forces' level design is a proper counter argument to the growing sentiment that Doom-era level design was inherently superior. The environments' visual simularity makes it hard to differentiate areas you've already explored and the maps sprawl and twist with hidden nooks and crannies that, in most games, would be secret areas but, here, are necessary to find and explore to progress.

If this sounds like it's going to be a negative review, I've misled you. Complaints on level design aside, the story is pretty great, especially for a shooter from this era, and the gameplay is challenging and frenetic at times. Your movement speed is akin to an F1 car and the weapons are satisfying in a Doom rocket launcher sorta way. Blasters shoot with violent rapidity and mowing down stormtroopers doesn't get old quickly.

I played through the entire campaign on medium when it was new (I'm old), and played through about half of it on easy here. On easy, I would finish most levels with max armor and health, on medium I remember things getting hairy a few times.

Worth it for nostalgia if you played it the first time and for morbid curiosity if you've never kicked the tires.

It's hard to imagine playing everything at this game's resolution back in the day. Such pixels.

Great app, but the new symmetry tool indicator is a step backwards.

I've been using Krita on Linux for a while and was glad to see it getting released on Steam. Recent updates have greatly improved stability and speed.

The only design decision of their recentmost efforts that I see as a step backwards is the very large, opaque symmetry tool indicator that divides your canvas when mirroring is turned on. It doesn't rotate when you use arbitrary canvas rotation while drawing and is generally too large and in the way,

Other apps such as Sketchbook and Manga Studio either have very minimal indicators for symmetry or the option to turn them to a low opacity. I find the new implementation too distracting and have stopped using it as a result. Adding a toggle for the symmetry/mirror tool's new indicator line would be great.

Great work, team. The new improvements are great!
