I can see why this won game of the year, and there's absolutely spots where it shines tremendously to deserve it. The story, the art, the designs of the abilities and such. This is still going to be a recommendation but I'm going to talk about the things people haven't that would drop it down to an 8/10 for me.

Firstly, the input lag.

For a game all about perfectly timing dodges and parries, the input lag can really screw your entire experience. There are bosses that will one-shot you if you don't time it perfectly, and others that you need to parry (parrying needs to be more precise than dodging) every attack in their 4-8 strike combo to defeat them. This is where the input lag really screws you.

Secondly, the invisible walls.

For a game all about exploring the areas, the invisible walls can really take you out of the immersion. I feel the maps are restricted enough that it could've been done without, and I'd say 60% of the time it is, but the others you can see just how rough it is.

Thirdly, platforming and random padding.

There are usually three ways to cross a valley they pick, one is a grappling hook, the other is a rope, another is these climbing platforms. The climbing platforms are just to pad game time, I can not see a single reason why the grappling hook couldn't just be implemented there instead. There's no extra difficulty, just wasted time. Platforming itself is meh, and I don't understand why there's a whole optional quest of platforming because all it does is showcase that the mechanics weren't done correctly when you jump and randomly slide off (don't bother using Lune here, she glitches the most).

These parts bring it down from perfection, but in no doubt hurt the game enough that it's not worthy of its awards. You can see the time and effort put into it, it's just the gameplay decisions are odds, and choosing to specifically highlight those problems in game makes it more apparent.

Just a really good roguelike. Sometimes you'll be stuck on a level for a while until you come at it with a different angle. I was stuck on one for about three days (I only played like two hours a day) but it felt really rewarding and not like I was being robbed from the game?

Sure it's a roguelike and there are some rng elements but it's moreso figuring it all out yourself which I find the most fun and fascinating.

Great game. Lots of funny moments to be had along with a solid gameplay concept.

The developer continues to bring out consistent updates and you can tell it is their passion project, so much more is to come.

I love this game. The combat is cool, the progression is fun. Doing quests and talking to all the NPCs feels like you are actually apart of the community, especially at the weekly meetings and festivals held in the months. Strangely enough, this is a post-apocalyptic world and despite its simple and cartoonish looks, it is a game full of depth and intrigue in both the NPCs and their struggles and the world and its history.

I cannot help but recommend this game enough.

Good game, of course there are some bad ones in the community and the reporting button feels useless, but other than that it is a really good game.

Because of the size of the maps and the amount of struggles caused by war and army management, the moment you conquer a large amount of the map you feel accomplished with what you've done.

That alone feels pretty damn good.
