Negative reviews from release might as well have been about a different game. Recent negative reviews were the result of female leaders being added to the game (i.e. a sexist overreaction). If you have any doubts about the quality of this game, and you know you like Total War games generally, then this game is one of the best if not THE best out of the historical titles in this series. Certainly better than any of the historical Total Wars made since Rome 1, but now I guess my bias is revealed...
