Terraria is amazing...

Advantages:

-So much variety in mobs and items.
-So much variety in classes.
-Lots of hours of fun multiplayer potential.
-Fast progression.
-Enjoyable for both casual and hardcore players.

Disadvantages:

-May need to look a couple things on the wiki from time to time.
-Some boss summonings are complicated and you need the right items.
- First few bosses will spam kill u if you are without legit gear. :P

Altough this is a positive review before you get it you can look into edge of space (wich i don't have) and starbound (wich i have). They may be better but they are definetely newer and more complex.
