My recommendation comes with a caveat: This game is not for everyone.

The gameplay is pretty slow-paced and methodical, but there's a number of different playstyles you can adopt. I've tried several with varying degrees of success. In general, the game rewards stealth and careful planning, but on some occasions, you can go in guns blazing on a herd of deer.

Weapon variety out of the box is good. Each weapon has its own defined purpose and are suited to a specific type of animal. For instance, while the .223 docent is great against foxes and coyotes, you'd never want to use it against a bear unless you had no other option. DLC packs add more unique weapons, such as the Drilling Rifle and the musket. Dear god, the musket.

The inventory system allows for a pretty good degree of customization towards your playstyle. I generally favor carrying a fairly wide variety of weapons to take on various types of game and going light on callers, but players can choose whatever fits them best.

Map variety out of the box is good. One pretty sweet aspect of the maps is that they are HUGE. I mean, huge to the point where you could spend real-life DAYS exploring a single map and not even uncover everything. One of the maps even has a firing range, which I personally find very useful for testing out weapons and practicing shot placement. The DLC packs add several more unique reserves, each with their own vast landscapes and new animals to hunt.

I would recommend this game to anyone who likes slower-paced and open-world games, as there's a lot to try out with this game. That being said, if action is your thing, you might wanna look elsewhere.
