I've been on the Dead Space hype train ever since Dead Space: Downfall dropped before the game and I have never stopped coming back to this universe. Was I sceptical about it being remade by a different team? 100%. But when I saw the passion from the lead dev explaining the the claustrophobic atmosphere, the subtle whispers in the background and Isaac's heart rate, he instantly had me on board because that was a man who has a passion for not only his craft but this universe.

I am so happy to be writing a positive review for this game as it not only captures all that made the first 2 games great but makes it even better and more suspenseful and it does not feel forced at all. This is probably the most organic remake I have ever played (next to RE2), the devs have clearly poured they hearts and soul into this game and I cannot thank them enough for bringing back one of my most beloved franchises from the dead.

The game's graphics are beautiful, the sound direction is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane and the lighting is angelic and the gameplay feel polished and refined. There are choices you can make in-game to certain areas that I think is the icing on the cake for suspense, you can choose to either have the lights cut out in the room you're in (it's mostly pitch black and the ambience is truly a work of art) or you can have the rooms oxygen removed then it's a race to Co2 tanks to stay alive.

The game excels in making you think you're being hunted 24/7 and no room you enter should be considered safe. The AI Director will spawn in enemies when you're free roaming around the USG Ishimura and will also time when your last jumpscare was. Isaac will also react to certain events in game and you can hear his elevated heartbeat in intense moments. Keep that plasma cutter loaded and ready.
