The game is fun, when you focus on the core elements:
Catch fish, organize/upgrade a sushi joint, make money with the restaurant mini-game, buy upgrades to catch better fish.
Simple and fun.

And then you get the rest: you get SO much extra stuff to focus on, it becomes a job to organize. If you want a calm relaxing fishing game, Dave has that. But -sadly- also so much more.
Complete the fish-pokedex, grow vegetables/seaweed in farms, find the right crew for the restaurant, keep VIPs and Parties in mind when fishing, random quest-givers, complete mini-quests on an app, dailies for fishfolk, 20 different minigames, QTE moments that happen out of nowhere without warning (not talking about the sharking dodging, just purely the actual mini-games), half-baked game mechanics that are introduced and used once and never again, etc.
Each thing separate sounds truly like fun, just not when you have like 20 fun things to think about. Especially when you get over the course of a week in-game, it quickly becomes overwhelming. The focus seems to be all over the place. It looks like it should be optional to do all that at your own pace, but it's brought to you like it's a must with a deadline.

And concerning the boss fights:
If they wanted to simulate how a real life fight with a shark would work out for you. They nailed it.
Not 1 boss-fight felt understandable or even fair. Even with a dolphin charm, you're a sea-snail going up against a torpedo. Heck, there is a boss 20x the size of you, and you're recommended to pick up a rocket launcher that makes you go EVEN SLOWER.

To end on a positive note: The characters are a lot of fun. And I see a lot of passion was put into this game.
And despite its many flaws, I did like it enough to get to the end. That's the only reason I recommend it rather than not. But man was it pushing it sometimes.

How can the first game feel like a proper sequel to its ACTUAL sequel?
I've loved playing Slime Rancher 1. And I was really looking forward to the sequel. But I wanted the full experience, so I let my judgement be after the game would be out of early access. Only reason I write a review for this game, is because this was one of the games I was really looking forward to.
There's a lot to love about this game, but sadly it has some glaring issues that weren't present in SR1.

Some things have become more tedious than before.
In the first game, your focus was on earning enough and spend it wisely, depending on the situation (With some plort and materials for crafting tools and research). But now, if you want to upgrade your gear, you need to find specific HIDDEN items to upgrade yourself. Don't be shocked if you finish the game with only 1 upgrade on your energy tank.

Also, the first game had what you can call "minigames", each a teleport away to a completely different area. SR2 doesn't seem to have any of that.

And the drones? When the game even gives you an achievement for making 5 of these things, each made of 3 diamonds, you expect it to be an end-game tool that covers an entire area in either plort collecting or food distribution.

*SPOILERS*

The shadow plort grindfest is very tedious. You should NEVER have to grind 1000 of anything to accomplish 1 thing. If it were fun, it would be a different story. But you just walk back and forth, hoping for 3-5 shadow slimes to spawn, toss random stuff at them, gather their plorts and repeat until your inventory is full.

The end-game area also feels like a step down. In SR2 it's a closed labyrinth. In SR1 it was an open desert. It was basically a different dimension, whereas the labyrinth seems to just "be".

As things stand, I can't recommend Slime Rancher 2.
If you haven't yet, go play Slime Rancher 1!

First you just try whatever and see what sticks.
After a few experimentations, you start to want to make a super efficient factory.
After a few realisations, you want to make everything in bulk.

This game makes you like math.

Playing it reminded me of Black Mesa;
when a remake is done well, it is gooooood.

I am a huge fan of the first Psychonauts for years, so I my expectations were quite high.

And despite that, they met them and then some.

This is a true sequel; it lives up to the legend of its predecessor and adds more to it.
In story, gameplay, graphics and overall fun.
If you love seeing the disturbed psyche of people in a colorful story-telling manner of the first game, I can guarantee you this one will not dissapoint.

I played this game AFTER I played Deus Ex Human Revolutions, several years ago.
Despite not having nostalgic feelings towards it, it has become one of my (if not THE) #1 favorite game of all.
The way it's made and the way you have multiple pathways, plus it's wonderful soundtrack, makes it worth being called a timeless game.
If you can live with the outdated graphics, like Halflife 1, this fps rpg might surprise you how some games can age like fine wine.

Endless fun & adorable as a newborn puppy.
Love collecting things and pulling acrobatic stunts with 3D platforming, like in Super Mario & Banjo Kazooie?
You got it.

Only this game has you messing with the maffia, stealing from kitty-yakuza, meeting girls with natural facial hair, starring in movies directed by 2 birdbrains and making shady deals Aku's soul-stealing cousin.
All while you're gathering your precious hourglasses.

...But stay out of that peckin' mansion.

Looking back fondly to when I played Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie and Rayman 2 in the past.
This game brought back the same feeling of wanting to "needlessly" explore & feel rewarded and satisfied when I find all collectibles. Love the idea of using psychic powers and literally jumping inside the crazy mindsets of different characters.

Easy to see why it's fun for many,
hard to see why it didn't take off big time when it was released.

Playing a poker game with an itchy-triggerfingered russian, a manical rabbit, a grumpy videogamer, and a failing badguy in a wrestling suit.
What else could you wish for?
