The game's depiction of feudal Japan is nothing short of breathtaking. From the mist covered mountains and cherry blossom fields to the quiet lantern lit streets of rural villages, every environment feels alive with authenticity. You can almost feel the weight of tradition in the air, the smell of rain soaked wood, the distant sound of shamisen strings, and the clash of steel echoing through sacred temples.

Sucker Punch poured incredible attention into every detail. The architecture, clothing, and dialogue all feel deeply rooted in the time period. The freedom to choose between the honorable path of the samurai or the cunning stealth of the ghost gives players genuine control over how they shape their journey. The samurai path embodies pride, discipline, and respect, rewarding direct confrontations and precise timing, while the ghost path embraces patience, strategy, and the thrill of striking from the shadows. The transitions between these playstyles feel seamless, and both are supported by deep skill trees and smooth mechanics that make every battle feel unique. Even small moments like cleaning your blade after combat, paying respects at shrines, or bowing to fallen enemies add emotional weight and cultural realism. The world feels alive with detail,

from the way the wind guides you to your next destination to the changing weather that mirrors the tone of your actions. Every sound, from rustling leaves in bamboo forests to the haunting music during duels, is crafted with purpose. The storytelling blends personal emotion with historical inspiration, giving every mission meaning and every victory a sense of honor. This is not just another open world game, it is a heartfelt tribute to Japanese culture, art, and spirit. Absolutely a 10 out of 10 masterpiece that stands among the greatest games ever made.

Expedition 33 is pure proof the industry is cooked

Expedition 33 is what happens when actual devs are finally allowed to make a game instead of a product designed by HR, shareholders, and Twitter interns.

This game shines. Not in a flashy “look at our budget” way but in that quiet, confident way where you immediately feel:
“Yeah… this was made by people who actually care.”
The premise alone mogs most modern games
A god paints a number. When you hit that age, you’re erased. Every year a group goes out to stop her. Every year they fail.

No chosen one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
No destiny crap.
No “we can fix everything with friendship.”
Just: we’re probably going to die, but doing nothing is worse.

That’s it. That’s the hook. And it’s already deeper than 90% of AAA writing.
The game doesn’t scream at you. It doesn’t wink at the camera. It doesn’t explain itself like you’re stupid.
It’s quiet. Sad. Heavy. People talk like they’ve accepted death, not like Marvel characters trying to get a quip in before the cutscene ends.

You can feel the confidence. Like the devs knew they didn’t need to beg for your approval.

Combat that doesn’t treat you like a toddler

Turn-based but interactive. If you zone out, you get punished. If you pay attention, you feel rewarded.

Crazy concept in 2025, I know.

No autoplay slop. No “accessibility” excuse for removing depth. Just: learn, adapt, get better.
Respect.

These are ex-Ubisoft devs.
Let that sink in.
The same company that now pumps out:
-soulless open-world checklists
-corporate-approved dialogue
-lore-breaking slop
games that feel like they were designed to not offend a PowerPoint slide
Those people left… and suddenly make this.
So yeah, the talent was never missing.
It was chained.
Ubisoft didn’t lose creativity, they strangled it with:
-agendas
-optics
-internal politics
-safe “modern audience” slop
Expedition 33 is what happens when that leash is gone. No preaching. No identity lectures. No narrative hostage taking.

Just art.

And that makes Ubisoft look embarrassing.
“But the main character’s actor is lesbian!”
And literally no one cares. Because the character:
-isn’t defined by it
-doesn’t talk about it
-doesn’t weaponize it
isn’t treated as “brave” for existing

She’s just a person in a doomed world trying not to disappear.
Crazy how that works.

People don’t hate representation.
They hate being talked down to.
Bottom line
Expedition 33 is a slap in the face to the modern AAA industry.

It proves:
-devs still have talent
-players still want depth
-art still works when ideology is left out

Ubisoft should be sweating.
Not because this game attacks them
but because it exposes them.

This is what they could’ve made.

Instead, they chose slop.
