I am so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sick of seeing people who enjoy the work of Hitchens, Dawkins or Harris being treated as though were just pissed off little teenagers who don't want to go to church. Even if you don't agree with Hitchens thoughts his eloquence and clarity of thought makes him one of the greatest writers of our time. I'm sick of immediately being labeled an intolerant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the moment I try to defend myself of religious questioning or even just make the mistake of making my opinion known in public. I'm tired of being told, by other atheists no less, that New Atheism is worse than religion (look up Marc Maron's joke on their being no atheist soup kitchens). I'm tired of being merely labeled a New Atheist when I even try to make a point. I am not some fedora wearing basement dweller who hates brown people and can't get a date. I'm 25, have a degree in computer science, hate hats and have a loving wife with whom I will have a daughter come fall. I fear for my little girl's future in a country that seems to be coming more religious by the day because I know for a fact that religion has been both main cause of and enabler of the subjugation of women (I would defy anyone to prove me wrong in that regard). I think we need to stand up. We need to say "I am not some fedora wearing basement troll, I am a hard working member of the community who deserves the same respect as anyone else". I mean what kind of world do we live in when atheists who dare speak out against the church are called ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ by other atheists while people who take part a criminal racket of child prostitution and slavery are still seen as the holy source of morally and serenity even by atheists.
