A new year menas a new testing initiative. And this time It's about reworking my mod campaign "THE CORE" for the steam workshop.

To date, I already released 3 of the reworked maps. The rest is in heavy preparation. The 4th map is on it's weay and the other 3 are in various stages of "readiness".

I could post them all like they are but then you're not ging to have their RELOADED look(tm) courtecy of Darth Brush.

I'm partially doing bits and pieces of the design myself as well and so this is now a joint effort in which it's not longer CosmicD's THE CORE but "Team Delay" (as we cristened ourself into). I'd figure that if so many people have worked on these maps (like also Bunny and Dangerous Person of Suicide blitz fame) I can't take credit for it on my own anymore.

so no "mod" update ?

I'm still figuring out if I would spend time on doing an update on the actual mod version of this campaign. There's much to say for it because I would be able to show custom media and have the end video play inside the final elevator etc; This is lacking in the workshop as I cannot include working media files in the bsp. Lucky that it works for the sounds and materials.

For the workshop I need to also change about every entety related to custom sounds to point to wav files instead of dedicated soundscripts, as this is the only way to include custom sounds in workshop versions of this campaign.

The bad thing about this is that the source engine works in 2 layers. It has a basic way to play sounds while directly pointing to sound files, but the soundscript /cache/ version works in a more advanced way. You can define advanced soundmixer channels and whatnot, but it's very hard to deliver as a single file as many of these things will not "zip up" nicely into one bsp which has to be delivered to the workshop. The engine won't read either a replacement sound cache or soundscript.

So for everything custom to work nicely (down to soundscripts and media) it needs it's sepparate mod. But the workshop is much more streamlined.

For the easiest user experience, valve has opted for a per test room model so that's what I'm adhering to. So the natural progress of the source code for the maps is that I adapt it to workshop. I would have to regress them to go back to mod install.

This is why you shouldn't have high hopes for a "mod release 2.0". I will announce this on the moddb site.

I already see nice results for the maps posted and I hope you'll continue to like the reloaded version of my campaign as we post future maps!
