The Black Geeks began like most great ideas; with a bunch of friends sitting around playing video games, watching movies, reading comics and talking smack! Yup, you guessed it; there was nothing profound, ground breaking or earth shattering about how we came together. The Black Geeks are a group of friends and friends of friends who love all the related aspects of the geek culture. We’re mostly adults who grew up in the late 70s and 80s who loved Transformers, Thundercats, Voltron, comics and video games but never quite grew out of it. We still compare notes about the latest cartoons, anime, manga, movies and gaming releases. We argue vehemently about such quintessential subject matter like which Star Trek Captain had the best First Officer. I know, I know, thought provoking stuff! I voted for Riker just in case you’re wondering.

Please don’t let the name fool you or keep you from participating in our little reindeer games. The site is for everyone! We call ourselves the Black Geeks because it was catchy and sounded like a good name for all people of color who are avid geeks. Our members are diverse people of color hailing from the Spanish speaking Caribbean to the Asian subcontinent. We created The Black Geeks as there is very little representation of minorities in geek culture. Also, in a great many minority communities being a geek is not popular; and those who are often find themselves on the receiving end of some really uncool taunts. The Black Geeks wants to shift this paradigm by providing a forum for people of color to explore and grow their love of all things geek. This includes but is far from limited to video games, cars, cosplay, books, miniatures, board games, card games, strategy games, all things tech, anime, manga, cartoons, comics, martial arts, movies, and the list goes on.
