Nightmare moon runs her country with a Iron fist and only allows the sun out long enough to keep the the planet from turning into a Ice ball, only 4 hours of sunlight a day means the world is stuck in unending winter and only deserts can be warm enough to grow crops

Equistria is slowly running itself into the ground, no more crops can be grown so they are bought from other counties that have a warmer environment, high food prices are causing the ponies to revolt against their leader but few succeed against her her knights.

Knights know no mercy to those who raise a hoof against the Queen, Knights are brainwashed before becoming a enforcer of her will, they have almost completely replaced the royal guard by now, little is known about how they recruit new members but most think ponies are kidnapped in the middle of the night and have this forced apon them.
