The L☮unge Memorial Group

The L☮unge was a moderately popular forum group that was active from August 2015 - August 2018. It was one among many forum groups from the era, but had the distinction of outliving nearly all of them. At its peak, it had somewhere around 100 members.

Reasons for its decline are heavily disputed by both the staff and the members. Most assert that the large number of subforums contributed to its collapse, while others say that The L☮unge's cold-war with rival group The Republic (2015 - 2016) turned away new users. A small minority, including the owner; say that the main reason the group fell was due to a self-fulfilling prophecy of perceived inactivity among group members dissuading further activity.

After 6 years and 3 months; the group was officially declared dead in November 2021 after over 3 years of inactivity. and was subsequently locked from further posting.

The L☮unge has been preserved as a cultural remnant of steam forum group history. Not for how it failed, but how it succeeded. The osmosis of users from the Steam Forums into more consolidated forum groups, annexation of smaller groups, the rivalry between forum groups, experiments done with regards to design and management not seen on the forums, and internal rebellion amongst those forum groups, and their collapse. The L☮unge experienced these things.

The L☮unge might return in the future under a different format and a different name; but for now, it exists as a relic of a bygone era. Its ♥♥♥♥-posts, dead memes, and hot-takes etched into the digital halls of eternity.
