You know you are Taiwanese when...

you love shopping and eating at the night markets.

you know what tzo tofu is, and you looove it.

you think that the 18+ plane ride with nonstop crappy movies is well worth it.

you have stopped in anchorage, alaska and have taken pictures with that big bear.

youve been to Taiwan camp and travelled around the island in a bus and the only thing you remember is playing big 2 and sneaking out at night.

you have a unhealthy obsession with Jay Chou.

you secretly love watching what happens when someone sees a cop at se ling night market.

you ride the MRT daily to get places

you have used the "squatters" in the "WC".

your grandmother offers you food everytime she sees you.

you fear for your life when you get into any car.

you eat a lot of tropical fruit like lambmu and bala

you definitely know if you like or dislike durans

you have seen the cabbage and the roast pork jade at the national palace museum

you know that shi min ding is the cool teenage hangout

you have taken the bus ride of death to the top of yang ming shen to hang out in the shade with old people, drink tea, and go to the hot spring spa

you can IMMEDIATELY tell the different from Taiwanese people and mainland china people (note the lack of capitalization)

you love the huge ass lichis or lung-yans with the tiny pits, you ate so many your nose started to bleed.

you seen the crazy bridge that goes up and down that connects to a tiny island, but was too lazy to go across so you just skipped rocks at the shore.

you have been to the "stream" that flows uphill! its over exaggerated but very weird.

you watch the kick ass movies on channel 23(i think) god of gamblers! stephen chow,andy lau, movies!

you love the ok, 711, family mart, convenience stores at 2 am. go buy some candy or drinks.

you definitely gained at least 5 lbs staying at taiwan.

you fished for shrimp at the "shrimp farm"

you go to SOGO but you dont buy anything because the prices are jacked up

you love getting complementary waterbottles or tissues at the gas station

you need boba milk tea as a daily requirement

you hate sitting next to random people when you eat

Taiwan was named Formosa by the Portuguese meaning Beautiful Island. This group is for everyone who loves Taiwan and believes in a free, INDEPENDENT Taiwan.

Taiwan is not part of China. Period!!

This group stands for the recognition of the political reality, not the false claim or diplomatic rhetoric.

Please be aware of the term "China." Whether Taiwanese people like it or not, most people say "China" to mean not the cultural entity, but the People's Republic of China.

This group is a response to the "Face It - Taiwan Is Part of China" group. It doesn't matter whether you think that Taiwan is part of China or that it should be part of China. Taiwan isn't!

Taiwan is NOT part of China!
Support the REAL democracy in Asia!
Beijing should respect the will of Taiwan and understand that military will not solve the problem.

Here is a list of political entities that have ruled Taiwan:

The Dutch Empire (1624-62): Ruled Southern Taiwan and drove out Spanish in the north.

The Spanish Empire (1626- 42): Ruled Northern Taiwan.

The Ming Empire (1662-83): Taiwan was an outpost for a great anti-Qing general, a Ming loyalist.

The Qing Empire (1683-1895): Taiwan was became a province of the Qing Empire in 1882.

The Republic of Formosa (1895): This was a short-lived republic formed in response to the abandoment of Taiwan by the Qing Empire.

The Japanese Empire (1895-1945): The Japanese left a double legacy, both suppressing the Taiwanese and substantially modernizing the island.

Republic of China (1945-present): The Kuomintang acquired the right to administer Taiwan from Japan after its defeat in WWII. The island has been in the control of ROC government since then.

N.B.: The People's Republic of China has never ruled Taiwan.

Per the provisions in Article 2 of San Francisco Peace Teaty, the Japanese formally renounced the territorial sovereignty of Taiwan and Penghu islands, and the treaty was signed in 1951 and came into force in 1952. Due to the fact China had no one certain legitimage government in power at the time of treaty signing, none of the governments claimed to be the rightful representative of China that time was invited to the treaty signing as neither shown full and complete legal capacity in entering into an international legally binding agreement.

Taiwan and Penghu Islands, as of the moment when the SFPT came into force, becomes a limbo cession with its political status undetermined. The treaty is to be in conformity with the Charter of UN, so that implies the issues regarding Taiwan's sovereignty would need to be dealt in accordance to the charter. In that sense, sovereignty of Taiwan and Penghu islands will be possessed by the natural persons on Taiwan and Penghu islands... and its political status shall be determined via self determination principle as stated in Article 1 Section 2 of the Charter of UN and Article 1 Section 1 of the UN Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

As of today, such right to self determine has not been officially exercised by the natural persons of Taiwan today. As of today, Taiwan remains independent of China or any foreign entities, and Taiwan remains to be a limbo cession that is in state of de facto independence but not de jure. Therefore, the group urges the public to face the fact that Taiwan is NOT a part of China.
