The Separatists featured in Csgo were based on the real-life Euskadi 'ta Askatasuna (ETA), a now-dissolved left-wing Basque separatist group. Their goal is the independence of the Basque Country, which is located in Southern France and Northern Spain, and had engaged in terrorist attacks throughout Spain.

Separatism is the advocacy of cultural, ethnic, tribal, religious, racial, governmental or gender separation from the larger group. As with secession, separatism conventionally refers to full political separation. Groups simply seeking greater autonomy are not separatist as such.
