It is quite likely I will start the server back up. This time, however, a different theme will be in place. A variation of ideas I've seen in several other servers I've quite liked. Hopefully also an improvement.

I would like to have a server with a theme. In which players must work together to survive and combat other players. I liked the way how, while wandering and exploring in Miner Apocalypse, I hardly saw anyone. Stealth, stealing, and banding together to survive. I liked the way the players were dedicated enough to keep rebuilding their structures, even after they were griefed. A pure local-chat server contributed greatly to this.

In a Dwarf Fortress-themed RP server I was on, there was moderator/GM-led plot that was driven by player-interaction. I quite liked this and would like to integrate it if possible. There were raids by Orcs and mob-invations. There were also alliances and races. I would like to integrate this, as well.

One thing I did not like about this server was the building rules. You were required to build in one single colony (or alongside established cities) and could not go out and create your own city if you wanted without first talking it over with the admins. I prefer a more free play style.

A major problem I saw on that server (and many others) was a general lack of economy. High-level items are frequently traded, but if you wanted to be a farmer or miner, people tended to already have enough of whatever they needed. Similarly, in that server, if you wanted to RP a farmer, or...well...anything except a warrior, kobold, or socialmancer, you were unlikely to get involved in the main plot (as near as I could tell, anyway). Something I would like to add is a role system where players must choose what they would like to be good at. Higher levels of play would ideally require several players in a group, allowing them to specialize in skills not required for survival, such as alchemy or magic.

Another interesting thing I've seen is on CivCraft. Players can jail other players by defeating them in combat with an enderpearl in their possession. Jailed players can be released by other players. This wouldn't work as well as it does without them also having a block-reinforcement system in place. Blocks can be re-inforced with stone, iron, or diamond. Each confers a certain amount of break-resistance to a block, requiring would-be griefers to destroy a block many times before being successful. I would like to include both of these systems in my server in one form or another.

I would also like to add a system of magic. The only "required" magic that I'll have is a protection magic for securing chests and regions for a period of time. How exactly this will be accomplished has not yet been set in stone. I anticipate a variation on what CivCraft has combined with some sort of region protection.

Finally, a few game mechanics will be modified for increased realism and to add pros and cons to each item into the game. Higher tier items will need to be done by a smith (or the item will suffer from a lower durability). Enchanting and Alchemy will have similar systems in place. Armors wll be tweaked to haveing pros and cons. (EX. Increased protection, but slower movement speed for Iron - proficiency can negate some of the disadvantage). Diamond-tier tools will likely be made into specialty and reward items, for loot. Food items will be rebalanced. Some crafting recipes will be added.

If I use Spout, (as I must in order to properly manage skill selection and some special features), I can also add items and blocks.

I know I've typed a lot, I certainly don't expect everyone to read it all. I've got a lot of plans and am uncertain whether or not I'll be able to accomplish it all. I'm very enthusiastic about it, however. If you'd like to suggest changes or voice your opinion on the ideas presented, feel free to message me.
