No God or King, only dwarf!

I am Asen Oslanolin, and I am here to ask you a question: Is a dwarf not entitled to the precious bodily fluids of his beard? "No!" said the dwarf in the mountainhome, it belongs to the king! "No!" said the dwarf in the temple, it belongs to Armok! "No!" said Deler Dorensherik, it belongs to everyone! I rejected these answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the improbable, I chose... Megiddo. A fortress where the artisan will not fear the mandate, where the fisherdwarf will not be bound by petty morality, where the small would not be constrained by the big!

In my dream the fortress extends deep in to the soggy mulch beneath us, spiraling down in to the wet underworld rich in life giving water close to world's core where it is still warm.

Upon waking I quickly appropriated an empty room and gathered the equipment necessary to start work on my utopia, I soon had all I needed to begin producing pumps, floodgates and other mechanisms. I quickly realised that we lacked any materials suitable for the construction of such things. Little matter I thought, an ingenious system of tunnels, overflows and management of water pressure will suffice to realise my dream.

As I dug, it occured to me that, as good as my idea was, perhaps I wasn't thinking big enough. In all areas of design, some of the best ideas have come from observing nature. It came to me then: Water is the source of all life, over 70% of our bodies are water so why shouldn't over 70% of our fortress?

I dug a channel from the river to the now empty lake and a shaft down to the lower level of our fortress, soon the life giving water will enrich our little home.

I've asked everyone to meet me downstairs so I can tell them the good news.

Season 4 - The Mushroomening

Diary of Ezum Idlist: Carpenter, Woodcutter and confused

Oh my god. This is blowing my mind, man. I need some mushrooms.

[Later that day]

Oh man, I see everything clearly now. That grower, he's the provider, and we, we, we're like his children! Dude! In ancient societies we'd worship him, but now, he's just one of our number. That's so profound, man. I think... I think I need more mushrooms.

I'm going to ask the grower for more farmland. Loads more. We need those mushrooms everywhere. If the goblins come, give them mushrooms. Let not our cultures grate - let's hallucinate!

I've taken up the task of mining because or previous miner has chosen fit to ascend to the next realm of existance. So profound, man. I'll go there some day, I'm sure. First, I have work to do.

A few of my friends have been mentioning their work has been interrupted by skeletal cougars. Heavy. I'm totally not the guy to deal with this. Cougars share this world with us, dude. They're not messing with our karma, they're part of it. I can't kill them. Maybe I should send our fisherdwarf out to talk with them.. he seems to know how to deal with difficult situations,,, I'll have to think on this.

I should find some mushrooms.

Now, I don't know much about fancy new-fangled irrigation but I do know that compacted volumes of water will disperse over large tracts of land. For that reason I've decided to risk digging a 3rd shaft and to connect it to our flooded section, thus creating arable land.

Today is a sad day, our Mason has died from thirst.

His corpse should be respected, we should lay it in the frozen tundra.

[Later that day]

His corpse is still warm, and full of moisture.. perhaps, just a little nibble.

Delicious. Work must go on.

The other dwarves have found the juicy entrails of our mason under my bed. I tried to explain, it was for a saucy concert, but they read this diary and discovered the obvious, obvious truth. Damn these lips of mine. Power has been transferred to the most handsome of our party. Need mushrooms.
