Pantaloon x Serenity Forge

Back last March, several lifetimes ago, we featured a game in one of our Bulletins called Centum[r.newsletter.pantaloon.io]. It's flippant disregard for genre convention and sensical narrative structure immediately struck a chord, with the game dialling fully into the notion of the unreliable narrator.

And so, in partnership with our new bezzies at Serenity Forge, it's Centum we're giving you this month - or at least we will if you can solve this month's puzzle on the 21st.

You're a prisoner in a cell.

You have to escape.

But is that really the goal?

Centum is fascinating for many reasons - but predominantly in that it's very difficult as the player to understand what's real, what's not, and what you can trust (and not).

This notion of the Unreliable Narrator means you can only really trust yourself and your own judgements. It's a cryptic, somewhat unnerving game. But deep. And affecting.

Features

Unreliable Narrator: Centum challenges traditional gaming conventions by weaving an intricate narrative where reality is as fluid as the mind of its narrator.

Mind-bending Gameplay: Navigate a series of daunting scenarios, each shrouded in uncertainty and enigma. Every click and decision is remembered, forcing you to grapple with the unreliable nature of the narrator's hints and guidance.

Shape the Story: There is no singular protagonist in Centum; instead, players shape the behavior of an artificial intelligence through their choices, guiding it towards different outcomes and experiences.

Dynamic Dialogue System: Engage in conversations that influence the characters' ego states and alter the course of the narrative.

Hello! Getting our stupid yellow megaphone out again for another ANNOUNCEMENT!

Today, in partnership with Whetstone Games, we’ve revealed OFFBEAT; a game that allows you to hook up kids toys, garden ornaments and kitchen utensils to a sequencer to create glorious electronic music.

In running your own music production studio, the game allows you to export your masterpieces to .wav, where you can do as you wish with them. Make ten twelve! Create an album! Get a record deal!

On that latter point, we’ve also set up Pantaloon Records; a new music label to publish work created in the game. OFFBEAT Radio will collate and publish the most notable tracks created in the game - which we’ve done with our first single, Not Your Uncle’s Ringtone (out now wherever you stream your music!)

OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you use for whatever you want.

Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.
