So, after THREE LONG YEARS it seems the creators of the turn-based strategy game Civilization V finally delivered their promise (sort of) and we can get a dedicated-ish server going! Those who have been around in the fandom for a while might remember we hosted a game of Civilization IV about three or four years ago involving nine furs from NZ and Australia which went on for several months (before being abruptly cut short by a server crash ☹). This was very popular and I’d love to host another for those interested!

Rules are simple: if you’re keen to play, you’re expected to log in and make your move at least once every 24 hours. Once this timer is up (or everyone has made their move), the 24 hour timer is reset and a new round plays. It’s okay to miss the occasional turn every now and again but it would be ideal if you make every day (turns are roughly 2 to 5 minutes long so it shouldn’t be too hard). Everyone will be alerted through their Steam Client automatically when the next turn has started and the timer has been reset. Teams will not be organized: you’re welcome to plot and scheme as you wish!

We’ll also organize nights where we’ll try to get everyone logged in at the same time on occasion. These were very popular and a great way to blow though heaps of turns in a night, but we’ll coordinate these around everyone’s schedules.

Unfortunately, Civilization V will not be running on a dedicated server *yet* (although it will be once the dedicated server is released by the developers), so on occasion the server (my home PC) might not be available. We might also pause the game or extend the timer for a few days if players wish, such as during Christmas. I’ll make sure to let all players know whenever this happens.
