Just tried the method, was able to roll back to the May 30 2023 build and continue using the -vgui for the metro skin.

the fix under me works :steamthumbsup: however dont use the steam metro download link, the site has been sold to a scam company and is now a microsoft support spoof site. to get it, copy the link into wayback machine and pick a version preferrably closer to May 2023, as june and july is where it starts to get broken. have a nice day yall

Yeah last update abolished the -vgui trick sadly.
It also removed sp.css from steamui folder, the new .css file is called chunk~2dcc5aaf7.css for those of you who also wishes to remove What's New shelf.

For those who cannot locate startup folder via shell command like me, just make sure the startup folder exist (%AppData%\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup) and check regedit if value in User Shell Folders/Startup is the right path.

After you turn off the Steam autostart, try typing "shell:startup" to Win+R and putting that shortcut in the folder that opens.

Is there a way to start steam automatically with -vgui mode, my steam starts up when I turn on my pc, at this moment I had to manually exit steam every time and restart via that shortcut trick.

If someone wants the old ui, create a shortcut to steam on the desktop, click properties, and in "Target" add -vgui. Now turn on steam from that shortcut and you have the old ui!

With this, you can go into the interface settings, and select the metro skin again!

PhantomGamers SFP allows applying a version of Metro theme. It's not perfect, but its better than this crap Vavle has released.

All I want is for the horrendous top/ bottom bars of the default UI to not be as thick as they are, can current CSS edits change that? I don't even care about the position of buttons and the like anymore, I just want a UI that doesn't force me to have the equivalent of black bars on the client permanently lmao

Today is a very sad day, Metro skin you will be remembered as the best skin that ever existed. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate basic steam UI why they always have to mahe umpates warse the versions before WHY? :(
