IT ALL BEGINS... aboard the SSV Ain Jalut SR3, commonly referred to as the "AJ." She's a tangible Normandy-class frigate, and even far more advanced than her leader.

You see, the AJ has seen long lasting decades of usage and combat amongst the Alliance, until that faithful day Saren, his flagship [also his] puppet master Sovereign and his goody Geth goonies decided to try and open an intergalactic portal using the bastion and centerpiece of intelligent humanoid and extraterrestrial civiliazation as a giant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ antenna with intent to launch a can of whoopass the likes of which the galaxy hadn't seen in about 50 g's, give or take.

You know, average Wednesday my dude.

So he failed, because (your) Shep along with the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ galactic fleet, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up Sovereign hard.

One down, X amount to go.

So anyway, in the course of this entire debacle going on, the AJ snags a spare shell or something and she's down for the count. Her salvage is towed from its cold corpse within space and she's retrofitted over the next year or two. The Council, as we know it, wasn't too big on Shepard's reaper theory.

I guess an entire archaic and legendary machine race wiping out modern life every few millenia was a bit hard to swallow...

...publically, atleast. The Council, while they couldn't pay creed to fairy tales and fables, decides to try and prepare somewhat in the only capacity they believe they can: quietly.

And the AJ qualified.

The Council decided that the Ain Jalut in her sorry state was not going to be much use, and the ship DID contribute largely to preserving the Destiny Ascension, henceforth it was only befitting that her sacrifice was honored and her torn wings restored not only to greatness, but now becoming a symbolic figure of unity between both the Council, and Humanity as a whole.

When the AJ needed a new hull, the Asari answered:

Her hull was replaced with Asari-made Silaris armor that can resist even the tremendous heat and kinetic energy of starship weapons. The armor is nearly unsurpassed in strength because its central material, carbon nanotube sheets woven with diamond Chemical Vapor Deposition, are crushed by mass effect fields into super-dense layers able to withstand extreme temperatures. That process also compensates for diamond's brittleness.

When the AJ needed new weaponry, the Turians responded:

Her weapon systems were subsequently replaced, with the thanix cannons becoming her cream of the crop. The thanix's core is a liquid alloy of iron, uranium, and tungsten suspended in an electromagnetic field powered by element zero. The molten metal, accelerated to a significant fraction of the speed of light, solidifies into a projectile as it is fired, hitting targets with enough force to pierce any known shield or armor.

When the AJ needed new shielding cuplinks, the Quarians jumped:

Her external shielding was grafted with Cyclonic Barrier Technology (CBT) and attempts to solve the higher-end limitations of traditional kinetic barriers prevailed. Traditional barriers cannot block high-level kinetic energy attacks such as disruptor torpedoes because torpedo mass effect fields add mass. The CBT violently slaps aside rather than halting incoming linear force. By rotationally firing their mass effect field projectors, ships create rapidly oscillating kinetic barriers instead of static ones.

And finally...

When the AJ needed high-processing systems the Salarians nodded:

Her internal intelligence banks and computer systems were replaced with E.W.A.N. [Electronic Warfare Algorithimic Network] who is a Quantum Blue Box type AI that functions as the electronic warfare defense for the Ain Jalut SR-3. He has control of the ship's systems and can operate in conjunction with the crew. He also serves as the Council's eyes and ears on the Ain Jalut, monitoring the many devices on board and sending regular reports to them at the behest of the ship commander. Says "Hello there" often.

So yeah, welcome to the AJ, may you play out the character of your wet dreams and kill reapers.
