MaqLAN BYOPC LAN Party @ Macquarie University

MaqLAN faces a lot of pressure when it comes to its financials because unfortunately at the end of the day running a LAN Party is very expensive.

We have to thank some people for getting us to this point:
Our staff – who have not only contributed their time but also their hard earned cash.
Our sponsors – as usual we would have almost nothing in terms of prizes and logistical support if it weren’t for you guys.
The LAN goers, you guys! – We apologise for our price fluctuations and our lack of justification as to why. We have spent years trying to find the right price point for tickets only to find a supplier of ours jacks up the price or the uni decides that we should be paying for something else just because they feel like it.

So here is our plan to keep running events and make the events we do run even better.

We wont be running any events unless we have full financial support from sponsor(s) to cover the cost of the entire event. This lets us set a fixed low ticket price for you guys which means more attendees and it also lets us use the money from ticket sales as capital we can reinvest for better infrastructure such as servers and network hardware.

Although December is cancelled we are aiming for a March event. This means there is going to be a few months of no LANs (which we are very sad about). So in the interim we are planning on running some online events to whet that appetite. We hope to be able to prize some of these but the majority will only be for fun.

These are the events we wll be running:

• MaqLAN Series – Tournament style competitive games run online (eg CSGO, DotA2, LoL, SC2, Rocket League).
  
• Sunday Sessions – We choose game from our fun games lists from our LAN parties and run a Sunday fun session.
  
• Midweek Missions – A specific story and environment is designed and picked for a game where players must complete defined objectives not necessarily part of the vanilla game.
  
• Midweek Mods – We pick a game and a mod to explore and try out
  
• MaqLAN XL – Muster all your family and all your friends to try to and claim victory in some of the largest games.
