The other animals humans eat, use in science, hunt, trap, and exploit in a variety of ways, have a life of their own that is of importance to them apart from their utility to us. They are not only in the world, they are aware of it. What happens to them matters to them. Each has a life that fares better or worse for the one whose life it is.

That life includes a variety of biological, individual, and social needs. The satisfaction of these needs is a source of pleasure, their frustration or abuse, a source of pain. In these fundamental ways, the nonhuman animals in labs and on farms, for example, are the same as human beings. And so it is that the ethics of our dealings with them, and with one another, must acknowledge the same fundamental moral principles.

Hey, everyone! In order to celebrate reaching over 1,000 members, we'll be holding a short essay game giveaway this weekend. INSIDE is the game we'll be giving away (via Humble Bundle link) to the person whose essay we are most fond of. As only a short essay is required, we'd appreciate it if writing is kept between 1-3 paragraphs and please, only one essay per person. Since the administrator and moderators who will be reading the essays primarily speak English, we can only accept essays written in English. We're very sorry for any language related inconveniences! However, we'll mostly be looking at the content and won't really be worried about grammatical errors.

The topics for the essay are as follows:

1. What do you love most about being vegan?

You all will have until Sunday 5/28/2017 at 11:59 PM (U.S. Central time) to submit your essay before the discussion thread is locked. Essays will be submitted publicly in the discussion thread located here: https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/groups/I_am_vegan/discussions/0/1290691308573382027/

Since we'll need time to go over each essay, the winner will be announced in both the discussion thread's original post and in a separate announcement on Tuesday evening 5/30/2017 around 5 PM (U.S. Central Time).
