The patching process is the same-- either method will produce a working client which is actually using 2.0.1 client.dll file. The 2.0.2 client.dll is the one which is unstable:
Both the 2.0.4u and 2.0.2-1-Tc community edits will both patch you over with the 2.0.1 client.dll revert. The only difference will be that 2.0.2-1-Tc (Tc stands for "Turbo-client" or "Thundercracker" whichever you prefer) you will be using vanilla 2.0.2 weapon values (official) whereas 2.0.4u does not use the same weapon values.
By installing the 2.0.2-1-Tc community patch, theoretically you will have no conflicts/issues whether you are on a 2.0.4u modded server or a vanilla one.
So far I haven't experienced any issues running (my) edit.
If you feel like you improperly applied the patch, you may revisit my guide which can be used to install either patch. http://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=870233522
