dotapickup.com was a DotA community built around the Warcraft3 custom map “Defense of the Ancients” that wanted to provide an opportunity for DotA players (mostly) of Europe to play relaxed and mannered games as well as more competitive games for experienced players. With the introduction of the DOTA2 beta and more and more people switching over to easier accessible DotA communities, dotapickup.com slowly lost its members.

dota2pickup.com is an attempt to revive the “spirit” of dotapickup.com again and offer a possibility for everyone to play games outside of the DOTA2 matchmaking, however, with strict rules on manners and a focus on teamplay.
