Bill: Zoey, go inside with Louis. See if you can handle his leg.
Zoey: Okay. C’mon, Louis.
Zoey bends down to pick up a struggling Louis and carries him inside.
Francis: You sure you want to do this, old man?
Bill: Yeah.
Francis: Then good luck, old ma-… Bill.
Bill: Thanks, Francis.
Bill walks towards the generator. He bends down to pick up a generator battery from a nearby toolbox.
A common infected notices him and alerts the rest.
Bill calmly walks to the generator, noticing the onrushing horde.
Yells and screams of Infected are interrupted by an earth-shattering roar.
Bill continues at a calm pace.
Francis: Bill…
A Tank appears from behind a barrier.
Bill arrives at the generator. He bends down and removes a cover on the generator.
The horde is trampled by the onrushing Tank.
Bill removes the old battery and adds the new one.
The Tank has decimated most of the horde at this point. It roars again, and tramples the few remaining.
Bill finishes putting in the battery and looks up.
Bill raises his rifle.
Bill: Come and get me, you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
As if understanding him, the Tank roars louder and picks up speed.
Bill backs up.
The Tank throws a chunk of rock at Bill.
Bill focuses on shooting it from the air. It breaks up.
Bill: HAH! Gonna have to do better than that, assho-
The Tanks punches Bill.
Bill gasps and props himself upright.
Bill: Bastard!
Bill pulls out his pistol and slowly crawls backward, into a room, while continuously unloading his magazines into the Tank.
The Tank throws another piece of debris. It hits a doorway and breaks up. However, a chunk of it hits Bill’s hand, knocking the pistol out of it.
Bill gasps, and comes to a stop against a generator.
Bill draws his M16.
Bill: For Louis…
The Tank slowly goes in the doorway.
Bill: For Zoey…
The Tank looms over Bill.
Bill: For Francis…
The Tank raises it’s fists.
Bill: And for any other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who is still out there…
The Tank laughs.
Bill: I SALUTE YOU!!
The Tank roars and brings its fists down.
Bill takes careful aim, and fires his entire clip into the face of the Tank.
The Tank roars in pain and stumbles back.
Bill reloads, takes aim, and unloads the magazine into his head again.
The Tank roars again. It starts to rush toward Bill.
Bill, realizing this is in vain, takes one final shot just to spite it. It hits the Tank square between the eyes.
The Tank lets out one final roar, and collapses.
Bill: Agh… ♥♥♥♥…
Bill looks down to see blood and bone sticking out of his stomach.
Bill: I’ve had worse…
Bill instinctively reaches for a medkit. Finding none, he lets his hands drop.
Bill: It’s my time. 78 years I’ve been on this earth, and I have seen my share of ♥♥♥♥.
Bill looks up to see a brick ceiling.
Bill: I’m ready, lord. Take me.
Bill looks ahead and cradles his rifle in his hand. As he slowly slips away into the darkness, he hums his favorite tune, the one he used to sing his granddaughter when she had trouble sleeping.
Bill: Across this land, through these seas...
Bill’s vision starts to blur.
Bill: Over these mountains, around the world…
Bill starts to lose consciousness.
Bill: Somewhere there… You’ll find this land…
Bill sees the dim outline of his boots.
Bill: Has many beauties…
Bill falls silent. He thinks of his friends. His last thought lingers on Zoey.
Bill: I’ll miss you the most…
Bill slumps forward.
Bill sees only black.
Everything goes white.

I made a slide show doohicky to help set the mood!

Louis: According to this meter, that generator needs a new battery.
Francis: No problem. Where is that sucker?
Louis: Down there.
Louis points down to the ground to a generator. Further down the rod is a large crowd of Infected.
Francis: Oh. Uh… ♥♥♥♥.
Zoey: Well, what do we do? We can’t go down there; it’s a suicide mission. There’s no way to get back up, it’s a huge drop, and there are way too many zombies.
Francis: So... what? We draw straws? I was never a good artist, y’know.
Bill: Don’t be an ass, Francis. This is serious. Those bastards can get up her if we don’t raise this thing.
Zoey: Well, how do we decide? Straws? Guess a number? Volunteer? Push someone down…?
Louis: ZOEY!
Zoey: Kidding, kidding.
Francis: All for Zoey?

Francis alone raises hands.

Zoey: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Francis: Hey, I’m the only one who has actually made any progress on this.

Francis and Zoey start to argue.

Louis: Here we go again…
Bill: SHUT UP! I can’t believe you two. In the middle of nowhere, we have a tough decision to make, and you two just keep going at each other.
Zoey: He started it…
Bill: I don’t care! Stop fighting.
Francis: Bill’s right. How about we kiss and make up?
Zoey: Ew. Who would want to?
Francis: Hella of a lot of people.
Louis: Can we get back on track here?
Zoey: Right, sorry.
Louis: So, who wants to be the hero?
Zoey: I guess… I can go…
Francis: Um... I uh… Can…
Louis: I will. I’d be willing to do anything for you guys.
Bill: Let me do it. I’ve lived a long life. You three have a bit more ahead of you.
Louis: No. I’ll go. You’re not getting away from this that easily, Bill.
Bill: Louis… No. I need to.
Zoey: Bill, please, don’t. I can do it.
Francis: Bill, listen to her. Well, half of it. Don’t sacrifice yourself. Let her do it!
Zoey: I’ve always wondered when you would agree with me Francis. Kinda hoping you wouldn’t this time.

Francis and Zoey start to argue again.

Louis: Guys! GUYS! STOP IT!

Bill sighs and slowly walks away.

Louis: GUYS! … SHUT UP! SHUT THE HELL UP!

Zoey and Francis look at each other startled.

Louis: Sorry, but you have to stop. No one wants this! Why the hell do you keep doing this? And where is Bill?

Everyone looks around.

Zoey: Look! He’s outside!

Bill is jogging toward the end of the walkway.

Francis: Hey, old man! What are you doing?
Bill: Saving you!

Bill jumps off the balcony.

Zoey: BILL! NO! DON’T!
Louis: Bill! You crazy ass! Why did you do that?
Bill: No one was going to go. I had to.
Louis: I’m coming down with you, Bill.
Bill: Louis, no. Only one of has to die.
Louis: No one will die if I come with you!
Bill raises his M16.
Bill: Louis, don’t.
Zoey: Louis… I think he’s serious.
Louis: Bill wouldn’t.
Louis takes a step forward and prepares to jump off.
Bill raises his rifle and shoots Louis in the leg.
Francis: BILL!
Louis: ♥♥♥♥! What the hell, Bill?!
Bill: I’m doing this on my own. No one comes with me. I’ll raise the bridge, and I will die. I accept that. There isn’t a way not to. Please, don’t follow.
Zoey: Bill…
