Well, 2012... how about that? I feel obligated to make a little note here, just because I am the founder and administrator of the group (meaning that I am one of two people with the ability to do so). 2011 saw a lot of great titles come out: Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Portal 2, Dawn of War 2: Retribution, and too many more that do not immediately come to mind.

Of these, the one that stood out most to me was the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I have been playing the Elder Scrolls series ever since the third game, Morrowind. I have long been a fan of the absence of any sort of linear plot in the games. They encourage you to pick a direction out of the first town and wander for hours upon days in their enormous world. A world populated by towns, castles, people (with schedules, starting in Oblivion), guilds, political factions, knightly orders, ten unique races, and completely open character development system. Bethesda has always catered to its dedicated fan base, and there are thousands of user generated mods, maps, races, weapons, armor, and adventures. Skyrim, I must say, takes the sense of adventure of Morrowind and places it on a scale never before imagined by a video game. Hours into the game, I have still not fully explored the first two towns I've come across.

Because of the potential it offers, in addition to infinite replayability with the inclusion of fan generated mods, I vote Skyrim as my favorite game of the year (although I am also enjoying Dungeon Defenders).
