What is a 'tactical unit'?

A 'tactical unit' (TU) is a well-organized, disciplined, and mature group of players who utilize their own doctrine to operate in the Insurgency mod. Operational doctrine trains their members how to combat as individuals as well as in groups. Groups are made up of Fireteam partners, Fireteam, Squad, and finally Platoon. TUs follow a rank structure and chain of command for training and operational purposes. All members are expected to be mature and therefore disciplined enough to adhere to the rules.

What is a skirmish?

A skirmish is combat between two tactical units for an extended period of time. For players, they are generally 8 vs. 8 or more. A firefight is 4 vs. 4 players.

What is Insurgency?

INS is a modification for Half-Life 2. Argyll initialized the mod in 2002 and conceptualized the gameplay that you are playing today in your INS servers. He made INS to play it. With the creation of tactical units, Argyll hopes that it will bring Insurgency closer to the full vision that he had six years ago.

Why the name?

Argyll's alias comes from the regiment that he belonged to during his time in the Canadian Army: the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada. Seeing how he witnessed the strong sense of morale and esprit de corps from being part of a highland regiment, he wants to bring that same spirit to the tactical unit. Argyll chose to include his name for the reminder that he is the commander - the one in charge.
