Hello, Friends.

With a UNI member recently having their account compromised, it seemed a good time to remind people to protect their accounts from phishing and other scams. I know you guys are too savvy to fall for that stuff, but everyone makes mistakes every once in a while and good advice never hurts.

So, the basics:
Remember not to click on unsolicited links in steam.

Always keep your antivirus up to date and run regular anti-virus and anti-malware scans. Some antivirus programs won't catch rootkits and keyloggers.

When you do get links through steam, check them carefully and make sure they don't end in something that resembles a domain name like .com or one of the 2 letter country domains like .us. The domain name farthest to the right in the URL is what will take precidence. So if that is something other then psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com, don't click it. It can be a good to cut and paste the URLs into your browser as well. This will help prevent some phishing tricks.

Don't ever give away your steam password or details or use them on any other site. Valve employees will never ask for your details over IM or E-mail (that's what the steam support ticket system is for). People also don't need your password to give you a game or anything like that. That's what the gifting system is for.

Use a complex password of at least 8 characters without dictionary words. A mixture of letters and numbers, like a acronym for a phrase with a few number subbing for letters is good. 8 or more characters, with at least 1 capital letter and one symbol is best. It should be something you can remember without writing it down everywhere, but something that someone else can't guess.
