University of California Budget Cuts


The University of California is one of the most prized public institutions of higher education. In the past, for approximately 10% of the fee it would cost to attend a private school, one could receive a government subsidized education. But with the budget criss in California, the costs of tuition has skyrocketed to approximately 33-40% of what it would cost a private education.


For Californians, this would me a spike from sub $10k to over $12-13k [and this is without room and board.] For out of state tuition, this would raise to over 30,000!!! Combined with the fact that premier institutions UCLA and UC Berkeley have much lower acceptance rates out of California then in California, we would have an issue.


Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed a plan to shift money from prisons to higher education --> thus alleviating the budget crisis slightly on the higher education side.
