Bangsawan Malaysia

Tan comes from the abbreviation of sultan [4] which is used as a title to refer to the nobility [5](bangsawan/rich people). Probably, with the noble class becoming ceremonial and no longer carries any power with the transition to the constitutional monarchy & democratic form of government, requires creation of a similar social class of persons of high rank and stature among civilian/commoner society, especially at the federal level where any noble class existed previously.

Sri (also Seri ) comes from the Sanskrit word, Shri or Sri (श्री) , which has quite a few meanings such as glory, splendor, radiant, eminent, majesty, beauty etc.
In Sanskrit, Shri or Sri also means wealth, prosperity, good fortune, auspiciousness, riches, fortune etc, which is also another name ( Sridevi ) of the Hindu goddess of wealth and fortune, Lakshmi[8]. This set of meanings for Sri is rarely used in the Malay language.
