Stop That Shield

Darwin's Danger Shield is a community-made secondary weapon for the Sniper. It is a crocodile hide, complete with waving tail, stretched over a broken wooden frame. A bird skull is tied to the brown leather body strap.

Like the Razorback, Darwin's Danger Shield is worn on the Sniper's back. Instead of protecting the wearer from backstabs, it grants a passive bonus of an additional 25 maximum health, encouraging users to venture further into combat but depriving them of a secondary weapon.

Equipping Darwin's Danger Shield also grants the wearer 15% resistance from bullet damage, enough resistance for the wearer at full health to survive a fully charged bodyshot or uncharged Headshot from any Sniper Rifle. As a trade-off, the wearer receives 20% extra damage from explosive sources such as rockets, grenades, and stickybombs.

Do you see it? Right there, in the center of the middle paragraph. Due to the uncontested fact that sniping is done by with all speed in mind, and not at all by reflexes, this item completly breaks the game for anyone not smart or to noble to use it. If you stand still in TF2, while in the middle of a sniper duel, it is an absolute certainty that you will get shot due to the ease of headshotting those already scoped in due to the sniper's movement debuff. Effectively, this shield decided the outcome of sniper battles before they occur. This item creates an enviornment where bad snipers win every duel, simply because they have better items. The majority of the threat snipers face is that of another sniper. This item not only negates that threat, but makes an already bad situation ingame into an impossible one. One imagines team fortress 2 as one of the most balanced online FPS games out there. Now, nobody is so sure.

Our kind has been victimized for far too long. Teach players that if you want to win, it requires practice, not some "instant advantage" item that just gets in the way of you truly being great. Join me, friends, and tell Valve that they must make this right.

For months now, the skill of good Snipers has been put off as mediocre by those lacking this skill. This item, Darwin's Danger Shield has been allowing the blood of our kind to be spilled countless times across the battlefield by none other than players who ordinarily would have no chance against us. As players, we know that great game design is where all players will be satisfied with the experience. With the Danger Shield buff, it has made the experience of fighting players utilizing this instant advantage both very difficult and frustrating. This is also unfair to bad players, as crazy as it sounds. When you think about it, gaining such an advantage that is so easily obtained, it doesn't encourage players to get better when victory comes so easily for them.
