This year is easy, it resets every day at valve time.

I'll make an alert halfway through, and when it resets.

To get your 3 cards daily you have to explore your queue 3 times, this means going through that list of 12 or something things 3 times a day. You can just hit next in queue every time.

I assume it's going to be like l4d and others in the past, just do whatever and make sure it says it has been added to your library, I don't think you'll even need to install it.
