Stage 3

Hey, everyone, it’s Celo I know I haven’t been too active with the Stage 3 group in recent years, but I’m starting to believe Star Citizen could be the game to reinvigorate some energy into our little group.

If you are familiar with the title, it has been in development for years and will likely continue to be worked on for more years after this post. SC is in a playable Alpha state with its 3.0.1 build, but the 3.1 version is feverishly being wrapped up for release either today or within the next week. They are currently chasing down a horrible graphics issue which could delay the update to 3.1.

I believe, SC 3.1 should be a solid jumping in point for anyone on the fence about joining the game.

Here is the reality of SC currently:

SC is a hungry beast make sure your PC conforms to the minimum specs and then have some extra for it to consume.

SC 3.1 will continue to be content-lite and after you get a handle on the basics of the game you will most likely find yourself bored by the second week of playing. Real gameplay won't be seen until the 3.2 update in July this year where a few more professions will be added. Currently, the only professions in the game are ship fights or hauling goods.

SC FPS can occur between players only. There are no FPS NPCs on the moons who will engage you. The FPS arena is a void, don't expect to find someone to shot there. The ship arena is where you will likely find a match against people or a race.

The world of SC is small. The play area consists of 1 planet and it's 4 moons with some bases on the surfaces along with some space stations.

The ship paywall...it's the primary SC makes its money. There is a wide variety of ships and noticeable prices jumps between them. Buying ships with in-game credits is planned, but unlikelihood of it being implemented won't be until the latter half of this year.

I would not be posting this if I wasn't convinced that Star Citizen Alpha 3.1 update wasn't worth $45. Anything more than that minimum investment of $45 I can not encourage you to make unless you see the potential or fall in love with the game. I have a small fleet of ships and I will be loaning them to anyone who wants to give them a try. I don't own many combat ships, sorry.
