It has been one hundred years, to the day, since the treaty was signed that ended nearly three decades of brutal war between the young United Earth and the collective of former colonies who came to call themselves the Halloranic League.

Many say it was madness that led the beleaguered, battered militias and guerilla fighters of the Nassa Republic to refuse the League’s offer for protection from the UESC. Others say it was foolish to deny the UESC when it offered to make the Republic a vassal state and allow it to join in the reclamation of the lawless old colonies.

Maybe it was pride for the Republic that led them to stand their ground against both the great powers, or maybe it was true insight into the horror and futility of the Galactic War, but for the latter four years of the war, they stood their ground against a wholly United Earth alone.

There was no question that when the dust settled, the flag of United Earth would fly in every city in the Republic. But it was this campaign of total resistance that finally ground Earth’s navies to a halt and allowed the Halloranic states to stand their ground and force the treaty. The League, to this day, claims this as a mighty victory, and UESC a bitter defeat. Those few Republic veterans still alive today might say otherwise.



Today in 2442, Earth and the League continue to do their business as blaster’s length. With the UESC navy bogged down handling scattered and persistent rebellions, and the League trying desperately to prevent more secessions, privateering has become more profitable than ever before. The unofficial auxiliaries of both of the great navies grow by the day as mistakes made by loosely-briefed mercenaries deal more and more political damage. Pirate fleets and warlords from the wild Fringes strike deeper into central Orion by the day. Galaxy-wide conflict is once again inevitable – the only question is what shape it will take.

In the Nassa Republic, much of the normally pervasive UESC Neptune Fleet has been recalled to defend the border from an unprecedented attack by the cyborgs of Avalon. This has paved the way for a more organized rebellion in Nassa than ever before, led by the charismatic and famously elusive Colonel Graham Burcham. As more and more citizens rally to his cause, human and Solaxian privateers take to the skies to do battle in the name of both the UESC’s and Rebellion’s paychecks.

And on the anniversary of the signing of the treaty, UESC Admiral Cole Wescott is assassinated by an unseen gunman as he speaks to a gathered crowd in Annapolis City. While the identity of the gunman remains unknown, this one gunshot could easily set fire to the entire Republic – a fire that could easily spread to the rest of the galaxy.

It is up to you to seek the truth, to do battle in the name of restoring order, uplifting the oppressed, or simply lining your wallet. Whatever your choice, your actions could easily be the ones that define THE FATE OF ORION.
