A sandbox/freeform Space Engineers server

This group has been created for fans of Space Engineers and sandbox games in general to meet weekly on every saturdays in-game and enjoy the crafting experiences of Space Engineers on what hopes to be a reccuring event.

This server aims to mix the tradition of the "weekly DnD game" with those of a sandbox experience where everyone can craft, or do, anything they please in a game environment to be played on a scheduled basis to ensure that nobody ever "get ahead" of everyone else by logging on when others are not online.

Right now, I'm hoping for a 11am-9pm EST(earlier or later in both start and end, can be adjusted at players' wishes) schedule for the game on saturday, where players can log in and out anytime they please on that day.

I intend the experience to be as freeform and sandbox than I can, encouraging players to not only come up with their own construction and ships, but also personal teams and so on. Players will be free to craft, trade, barter.... lay claim to territories and try to defend them or anything eventually. If anything, the logistics of just getting weapons up are quite a challenge in themselves so though PVP won't neccessarily be encouraged, it won't be outright made illegal on the server.
Though this said I might enact a bit of an house rule against griefing the properties of AFK and offline players.

If this picks up, I might try to organizes occasional "events day" to offer a varied experience to players who are interested in sticking around.

Just a small announcement. Will sound terse but events this week(such as my grandmother suffering from a stroke) have led me to have a bit of a short patience.

Long story told short: that player ran his own copy of the server outside of scheduled day. When I explained(after discussing with some other players) that I would use a older save he kept pleading me not to. And threw a fit and accusations because he couldn't thus kept his base(which included content where he switched the server in creative mode to build costly pipelines free of cost). I can understand the disapointment.

But please, if I ever had to make a ruling of any sort(something I -don't- want to have to make as I would like this server to be very open and freeform)... don't backtalk to me.

Seriously, I've had a very long week, my grandmother suffered from a stroke and I had to visit her at the hospital(this is on a side of the family where I've already lost an aunt and my grandfather, leaving only my mother, my grandmother and an uncle) so... seriously this was the last kind of thing I wished to deal with today.

My apologies for this. The server is and will still be hosted on Saturdays. However I may come up with some basic rules on it's running, in case I open it to new players again.

As the announcement states, I will be resuming the Space Engineers Saturdays server hosting tomorrow now that the memory leak is over.

After thoughts and discussions with group members I could reach I will use one of my personal saves from last weekend. People who have made their own saves and projects will still be allowed to use these saves on a personal basis, especially as they can then use creative mode to test out prototypes and systems they may wish to implement during the weekend survival game. In fact, I'd had enjoyed some of my time on a player that invited me to their copy of the server.

However, the official server(and thus savegame) that will be used will remain a server using purely survival rules hosted only on saturdays.
The reason is to create a community server where players can all build at the same pace without worrying about whether or not to log on during the week to "catch on" other players and teams.
Similarly, while a survival ruleset might make larger projects more harduous, it would in my eyes encourage players to interact together to trade or barter for ressources which they lack for their project... and perhaps help them decide to act upon those they may or may not feel threatened by.

After all, if you're building a doom-rockets spewing deathstar, your neighbour may wish to have a word with you on the subject ;)

This said, I do wish everyone fruitful crafting and success on their endeavors on the server.

This said, I will turn on cargo ship tomorrows so that passing cargo ships will be available for attempted capture and salvage.
However, remember that many of them are armed with gatling and missiles turrets which are now all functionals, so you may wishes to plan accordingly and I will wish you good hunting. Just be warry for potential rival "salvage teams"... or simply negotiate the right to capture given ships and/or split the spoils of successfully salvaging one thanks to a cooperation contract(or however you wishes to handle this since this server aims to be totally freeform in not only crafting, but also players goals and aims).
